We had the good fortune of connecting with Sadaf Khan and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sadaf, how do you think about risk?
There is no success without risk. There it is. It’s as simple as that. I started Layla Love Designer Events 8 years ago with a plan. Did I think my plan was going to succeed against all odds? No. I had my challenges. First – Evaluating your future success against your current success/and or plateaues. Family, kids, finances – Does it add up? Are you going to break barriers, and push boundaries that you have become accustomed to. If your answer here is no – Than success is going to be a hard find. Secondly – You’re going to fall. Get your knee pads out, and wear them with pride. Ego has to take a back seat to your new motive. Thirdly – You are putting yourself out there. There will be judgments passed, naysayers, and perhaps even the jealous tribe. Do your thing, and don’t bat an eyelash to those who are not cheering you on. There is risk in allowing yourself to become vulnerable. As a person with generally a positive outlook on life – I’ve easily fallen victim to all of the above in some way or the other. I’ve had to tell myself that there are going to be good days and bad days in my business world, and sometimes my relationships will suffer. If I’m focused on my motive, usually the good will stick around for the long haul. So, risk, you say – It’s all a part of the mantra. If it doesn’t scare you – It won’t grow you.
What should our readers know about your business?
I’m the Senior Lead Designer for Layla Love Designer Events. We are a premier Event Management and Design Company supporting the Houston and surrounding areas. Our focus is to curate, design, plan, manage, and financially organize social events of all kinds. We are celebration experts! If you have a reason to dance, eat, sing, rage, and enjoy life’s little and BIG moments – We are there to help you plan it! I can say that I’ve experienced many highlights in my career. The few that stand out are: A Full Production Fashion Show for the Label Rammy by Rammeyz. It took place at the River Oaks Garden Club in Houston. Hot pink glam runways, and rich vibrant chiffon dresses that carressed the ground. It was simply magical! Another top of my list is our very first 500 guest BIG FAT Indian Wedding. It took place at the evergreen grounds at the Texas Safari Ranch. Speakers ablaze, food so delectable, and elegance everywhere you looked! Our first Quince, Milestone Birthdays, 50th Top Gun Theme Party – The list goes on! You can get a glimpse of our work at Laylaloveevents.com/Gallery. Of course there are challenges in marking timelines off your list, or getting approvals on budget, and losing vendor relationships — It’s all a part of the gig. I say this daily… That for every wrong there is a right. Keep an open mind, and insecurities at bay. Ask questions, and be willing – NO – be VERY willing to learn. It may feel like you’re going uphill at times, but that roll down the hill is all the worthwhile.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Bestie is in town – Whohoo! First – Let’s hit up Downtown. There is a flare and vibe about the bustling streets of Houston’s Mid-Town. Eclectic new eateries, and fun little bars, It’s the perfect day and night scene for beginners. Next – I’d take you to Galveston. That’s my beach. Growing up in Orange County, CA I might get some glares by saying this – But I love Galveston! There aren’t many beaches in the US that allow you to drive up so close to the shore, and let you live without a curfew. The Strand and Historic area give me Main Street vibes, and I love it. Lastly – I’d say we go on a drive through Wine Country and Austin City Limits. It’s the best home-away-from-home getaway! Everything under one umbrella. You won’t be sorry, friend.
