We had the good fortune of connecting with Samantha Guzman and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Samantha, is there something you believe many others might not?
That everything has to be in line to start your business. I had nothing ready. I still don’t have a lot ready. But I have the best support system that told me to just take that leap.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Well I got my start in Fashion. Went to University of Houston studied at the technology school for Consumer science and merchandising And specialized in fashion. I’ve worked at Saks, Neiman Marcus, and for jewelry brands as a brand manager. My path now no longer exclusively includes fashion. I decided with a big push from my partner to pursue baking, I know really weird, but I’ve been playing with food since I was probably in middle school. My mom was always cooking or baking something, often from scratch and I just started picking it up more heavily in the past few years. My premise is to provide a luxury good with a fashion perspective through food as my medium. But to put it simply I bake and create beautiful and tasty treats. I also do some catering and have charcuterie offerings.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Definitely one or two of the food halls we have, an easy option when you don’t know what to eat! Tiger Den for amazing ramen and Brussels sprouts, backstreet café for Brunch. The list is never ending for food! I’m all over the spectrum.
For vibes, views and libations my partner and I love to catch DJ Athenz for Sunday evenings at Sunset we also love to catch her at Pearl bar and Boheme especially for Drag brunch.
As far as culture, our museum district is great, loved the art installations at seismique and the pop-up that’s going on right now at Greenstreet: From Houston, With Love
There really is so much food, culture, and overall vibes in the city. There’s a little something for everyone.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My partner Kristen Aguilar has probably been one of my biggest supporters, she was the one who pushed me to pursue my business. I also have the best support system of creatives, friends and family. Brian Dobry helps with photography and branding and Daniar Listyasari also helps me with graphics and branding. Leonardo Valencia is my moral support, my best friend since middle school and is the best hairstylist in Houston. I can’t forget about the people who have either like, commented, shared or ordered from me. I appreciate each and everyone of my clients/customers.
