We had the good fortune of connecting with Samantha Sanchez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Samantha, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Starting my own business was always something I said I wanted to do from the time I graduated esthetician school 10 years ago. I think my thought process now after working not only in esthetics but also giving other job fields a try during that time is that, more often than not, no boss no matter what industry you’re in will value and appreciate your hard work and dedication to your profession more than you. I knew that I was done working in toxic environments with toxic people and that I was tired of the “job hunt” and wanted to do things my way. I’d be lying if I said it was easy and that it happened over night, but the reward of starting my own business, my baby, has been worth every challenge it took to get here.
What should our readers know about your business?
Skinthetix Studio caters to skin, body and beauty. I pride myself on always being open and honest with my clients and creating lasting relationships with each person. I think I’m most proud just to be a small business owner. There’s so much that goes in to running a business from decorating your space, to selecting your products and equipment, to making sure all your regulations are met. I think one lesson that I’ve learned is that not everyone is going to be happy to see you do well despite the pats on the back and the “congratulations”. It’s ok to not share every detail with everyone and to keep your next moves private; outside energy can ruin beautiful things. Ultimately I want people to know that I’m here to educate and help any and everyone feel comfortable and beautiful in their own bodies and skin.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Well it definitely depends what time of the year it is.. in the Spring and Summer time you’d probably catch me and a friend doing brunch and mimosas out on the patio at On The Kirb or Dish Society, going to an Astros game, spending some time on the water, maybe go float the river (always wear your SPF!).. and if it’s the Fall and Winter time we’d definitely be doing haunted houses and going to pumpkin patches, trying something fun like ax throwing or painting with a twist, and checking out the themed pop up bars or art exhibits in downtown Houston. I’m all about the experiences!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There’s two women without whom none of this would be possible. First I’d like to thank my mom, who having been a business owner herself with my stepdad, supported me from the very beginning of this journey in every way and only wanted to see me succeed doing something I love and being happy doing it. I love and appreciate her for it more than she could ever know and am so grateful to have her in my corner. The second person has been a mentor and friend, Dulce Duron. She believed in me when I didn’t even believe in myself and gave me a space to work in and get my business started. As a mentor she pushed me to grow and believe that I could succeed as a business owner and as a friend she was always there along the way to listen and guide. I’m so thankful to have met her and couldn’t have gotten here with out her.
