We had the good fortune of connecting with Samantha Toliver and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Samantha, how do you think about risk?
When I think of risks before starting a business I would say the first emotion that comes to mind is nervousness. I have not been much of a risk taker in life but having my own business has taught me so much about myself. It has also taught me what I am capable of and how to push myself. Recently my husband and I have taken a huge risk but we truly believe it is worth it. He has left his job of 15 years because it was physically and emotionally draining him and we have gone full force with my business. We believe that his mental health and overall happiness is worth way more plus we believe in our vision for this company.
Even though this decision was a scary one I am confident within myself and believe in myself enough to know that I can do this. I would like to set the example for others around me that you can find something you love to do and be successful doing it. You do not have to work yourself to death at a job you hate until you’re old. My definition of success is not about money it is about having control over your own life, well being and what you invest your time into.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
For the past several years I have been a stay at home Mother of 4 and although it has been rewarding it has also had it’s challenges. I always knew I wanted to start a business but had a hard time figuring out what it would be. In 2019 I was throwing a party for my eldest daughter and that’s when I found my niche. I’ve always had a passion for art and creating things so I began practicing and perfecting my craft. Next thing you know I was booking events and here I am 2 years later growing in my business and still loving it plus having fun with the whole process.
Running a business has it’s own set of obstacles but I think being a Mother of 4 has definitely helped train me for this. You have to have critical thinking skills, multitasking skills and learn to deal with multiple personalities. I would say my biggest challenge is putting too much pressure on myself and being my own worst critic. I just feel like when someone books me I take it very seriously because they are trusting me with their special day and I never take it lightly. I am somewhat of a perfectionist with my art and am very particular, I’m still learning how to not be so critical of myself because each time I walk away I feel that there is something I could have done better.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Well to start the day off right we would definitely get a blended coffee from Denovo in Tomball because that is my favorite place to grab my coffee from. A couple of my favorite spots for food is Taco Plus, they have amazing tacos! And I absolutely love Gianna’s Italian Kitchen, their chicken alfredo is delicious.
Since the weather is much cooler I would take my best friend to a drive in movie at The Show Boat. We have been taking the kids there since they were toddlers and we have had a great experience each time we have gone. I also just so happened to know the best place in town to grab shakes from and that is Chill Milkshakes on Louetta, you won’t be sorry you stopped by! Another thing I enjoy doing close to me is visit antique shops, Granny’s corner is my go-to spot but I also do swing by the other nearby shops. There are so many to choose from on Main Street in Tomball.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My biggest supporters are my family and close friends. I am lucky enough to have a husband and kids that have always believed in me even when I have not believed in myself at times. And my sisters always have my back any time I may need it whether that be a helping hand or listening ears. I also want to thank my friends for the encouragement and for every like, share, comment and referral because every ounce of love and support is vital.
