We had the good fortune of connecting with SaMia Kennedy and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi SaMia, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
My online site The Education Doctor is a virtually tutoring site, where in learning, education is the medicine. Simple, in this generation today, scholars believe that their is a way of getting around learning the foundations of Education because of the recent pandemic that has hit us. And although, for them life may seem “easy” because there are no real repercussions for their actions, but there is no way or shortcut around education, it is literally the key to success. You must be educated, yes talent is very important but your talent will get you no where in the world we exist in with no education it isn’t possible. So my website is to help people, especially in my community Oak Cliff, TX understand that they are already in a funnel to not succeed and with no effort or support, that funnel of life will swallow them up to no point of a successful return.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a teacher in Dallas ISD. I teach 6th grade math at Holmes Middle School. Math is my favorite subject, and I believe that education is the only medicine you need to have professional success! Being a teacher, in a Title 1 school, doing hybrid teaching, in this pandemic is nothing short of an easy job in the least of words. When teaching you are faced with challenges daily, a lot of people don’t realize that as a teacher you sometimes have to be a parent, therapist, counselor, psychiatrist and/or facilitator randomly throughout the day, and sometimes more than one at a time. I’ve learned patience on a whole new level, and perseverance to keep going. Eleven year olds are a special type of human that test your last nerve, but you have to realize that what you say can literally change the mindset of a child that wanted to give up just yesterday.
I just want everyone, every child to understand education is one of the most important things needed in life, and without at least a 12th grade education, life as they understand, plan for, look forward to, and see on social media would be so much harder to make a reality.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
