We had the good fortune of connecting with Samira Holland and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Samira, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
At first I didn’t have a plan. I was comfortable at my last job working for a big chain. Once I left I knew I could go back to working for someone else who was brave enough to follow their dreams or I could start to follow mine. I opened 3 weeks later.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I love to be creative. Drawing is one of my favorite pass times. My theme for my wax studio was clouds (dreams) growing up I remember doing projects on the different types of clouds. What our dreams mean in the real world and how we can use our dreams to almost draw a path to our goals and aspirations. What I’ve learned is that there are many paths to your destination. And that you can’t compare your journey to another person. Each journey is hard in its own way but you just have to keep pushing. There have been a few times where I’ve wondered if I should give up. But I won’t let myself. I’ve come so far and I still have so much more to do. Not josh for me and my business but for my clients. I have been very blessed to not only have clients that love my style and my work, but I’ve found a family and people who inspire me to be better everyday.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’ve been a homebody all my life. Not really a club or bar person. But! I do love food. So most of our spots would be centered around food! I love going to activities like paint and sip, make your own terrarium. Cooking classes and even things like pole dancing or group activities around the city. My favorite food spots closest to work are Egg Haus, common bond, Rice box, Neo baguettes and a 2nd cup. I also love the local food markets on the weekends.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Revive Salon and Spa. Although I had been open for 2 years before I had met Nikki or Myra. They were the first home that taught me all things I should and shouldn’t do. They stay helping me and the other boss babes between both locations and learn hone are skills on our individual crafts. They make it feel like a sisterhood and not like competition or making you feel like you have to already know everything or Just figure it out on your own. I absolutely love everyone at my location and I can’t say enough positive things about Myra and Nikki they are amazing boss babes!
