We had the good fortune of connecting with Sana Malik and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sana, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
We are two sisters who started this business together. We are not only the first business owners but the first female business owners in our family. We are about 6 years apart, and when I graduated (6 years later), big sis called and recruited me over to Houston so we could start our business together. Knowing we both wanted to start families, and build our careers, we decided this would be the right move for us.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
We are a family run business, run by two sisters. We’ve been in business for about 8 years now, and we have built a very loyal patient base. We offer everything from Routine eye care, to specialized care such as Dry eye, Glaucoma, Diabetic eye exams, and eye injuries. We really cherish each and every single patient and strive to make each patient feel like family.

Our story starts with our mom. She worked at an Optometry practice while we were growing up and we all worked there when we were 15. Being exposed to the Optometry world at such a young age definitely helped plant the seed of what we envisioned for ourselves in the future.

Sairah graduated a few years prior to me. She went to U of H Optometry and ended up staying in Houston for work. She initially worked at a LASIK clinic for a few years, and then once I graduated, she recruited me over to Houston and suggested we open up shop together. I packed my bags and got on over here and we opened up shop!

Running a business, not coming from a business backround, was quite difficult but we got through the challenges by making mistakes and bouncing back from them. We learned a lot along the way, built up an amazing team and work really well together, since we excel in different areas.

I want people to know that working with family is so amazing, and it truly does bring out the best in our business. We love the family feel of our clinic, and we love seeing our patients come back year to year!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d like to give a huge shoutout to my father. My father moved from a small village abroad. He raised all 3 of us girls with the tools to give life our best, and to work hard. He always pushed us to do our best and the bar was always set high to help us achieve a life better than he could provide us.
