We had the good fortune of connecting with Sandy Garza and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sandy, what do you attribute your success to?
Success to me, is peace of mind, knowing that I made an effort to become the best I am capable of becoming. So as I am accomplishing one major life goal, I’m already thinking of what my next one is going to be. I’ve had my fair share of triumphs, but I always stay hungry!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
It’s not widely known, but I graduated with honors from the Art Institute of Houston with a BFA. After being laid off twice from two different architectural firms, I felt I needed to explore a different career path. I started out in the entertainment scene by modeling for national magazines. I had always dreamed of working in TV and film but didn’t know how to get my foot in the door. After accompanying an actor friend to set and seeing the gears of a real production turning and working together, I was hooked. My first acting roles were for local short films, but it wasn’t long before I was booking commercials, music videos and even TV and film gigs. I now work as a freelancer in the entertainment industry. Because of my educational background and the path life has taken me, I wear many hats. I am an actress, model, blogger, production coordinator, production designer, content creator, and much more. I like to stay busy! Everything I do, I give my 100%. I try to incorporate my production & design knowledge in the content that I create.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
One of the many things that I love about Houston is that that there are so many things to check out any day of the week. I am loving EaDo right now especially its diversity and chill vibe! I would start off by taking my best friend on a coffee date to Brass Tacks. Such an awesome vibe, super clean aesthetic! Assuming that my best friend is here on a weekend, we would walk over to Pitch 25 for some brunch and yummy cocktails. Then bar hop to Truck Yard and 8th Wonder Brewery. Other spots I would recommend checking out is Discovery Green, Bayou Park and the vintage shops along Montrose!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
The Houston Latina Bloggers. These women come from all walks of life. Some are bloggers, YouTubers, makeup artists, jewelry designers, candy makers, etc. I love the constant support these ladies have towards one another! These ladies inspired me to start this blog (www.aflowerwithavoice.com) and share my voice.
