We had the good fortune of connecting with Sangita “Mya” England and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sangita “Mya”, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
It all started with my childhood. My first influence into the “artistic” world was with Fashion. Paying close attention to details when it came to fabric, texture and accessories gave me the courage into becoming a creative in my own right. Once, I witnessed that there was no right or wrong with creativity, it allowed me to express myself with no words- enabling me to share my thoughts and expressions through Fashion, Hair & Design.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am the proud Owner of Modern Culture Design that was birthed during the Covid-19 Pandemic. I started my design business from only offering virtual services to now taking on full residential and commercial projects. What sets my design business apart from others is that I go beyond the surface- level easthetic and I will always infuse story telling with cultural elements because of the depth and meaning it adds. Those are the type of projects that excite me and become the projects that I’m most proud of.

Starting a business the unconventional way how I did, can be very complicated but yet so rewarding. What I focused on the most while curating my business was “Authentic Branding.” I shared with my followers exactly who I was, my true personality and my journey through the good and bad. Im never afraid to show that I’m human. Again, since I did not have any formal education nor a mentor to guide me, I really had to make a lot of mistakes but because of those mistakes, I am now a better self-reflector, problem solver, innovator and the confident woman I am today.

The one thing I would want the world to know about me and my brand is that I do it for the Culture.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
The first thing we will do is… yes, you guessed it- GO EAT! Let’s go to Joey Uptown for some appetizers and drinks then head to Travelers Table for our main course and dessert. We’ll end our night at one of Houston’s Hookah Lounge. The next morning, we’ll wake up early to go for a nice walk/ jog at Memorial park before showering to get ready for brunch and a nice spa day inside of the Post Oak Hotel. Don’t forget to pack your swimsuit because I’ve booked us a Cabana as well. To add a little cultural twist to your trip, grab your camera so that you can get some beautiful pictures at BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir (Temple). This place is jaw dropping and will make you feel like you’re right in India at a mini Taj Mahal.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I have to first recognize and acknowledge Nepal that made me and to Houston that raised me. Both places fed my soul with it’s rich culture and diversity that made me who I am today. My Husband and Sister who have been my constant source of encouragement, support and love. Last but not least, my Children who I believe have walked this earth before me because of how much Wisdom and unwavering belief they pour into me.
