We had the good fortune of connecting with Sarah Hershberger and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sarah, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Yearning for a creative outlet outside of my 9-5 job I discovered the art of resin and clay jewelry making. I fell in love with the idea of being able to express myself freely without my ideas being overlooked. Bringing others confidence through affordable one of a kind jewelry was exactly what I set out to do through Yellow Nest Goods.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I as a maker through my business make each piece feel one of a kind, thoughtfully crafted and curated. I’m proud of putting myself out there and learning a whole new skill set. I’m excited to eventually pass along my passion to others through inspiration or teaching. Getting where I am today was driven by the need to express myself creatively and never losing my vision of what I wanted out of the experience. It’s okay to reach out to other small business owners to ask questions, they were once where you are. Through Yellow Nest Goods I strive to bring affordable, one of a kind handmade jewelry to others, helping them express their individuality and feel confident.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Columbus has many fun and unique places worth anyone’s time. To start the week, I would start with a tour of some of the unique experiences in Columbus by visiting the Columbus Museum of Art in downtown, a more traditional exhibit based experience, followed by Otherworld, an immersive art experience unlike anything you’ve seen before, and COSI, a science museum and research center. Next, I would recommend a trip to the German Village area, visiting Schiller Park, grabbing a book at the Book Loft, getting a coffee at Stauf’s, and chowing down at Schmidt’s, a German eatery. For those looking for some nature, I’d highly recommend checking out Highbanks Metropark (don’t forget the zip line there), the Park of Roses, the Columbus Zoo, and Franklin Botanical Gardens. For food, be sure to check out Dirty Franks, La Chatelaine, Condado’s, and the North Market.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to dedicate my shoutout to my boyfriend and my family. Thanks for believing in me and supporting me through my journey! I wouldn’t be where I am without you.
