We had the good fortune of connecting with sarah smith and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi sarah, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
Makeupbysarahsmith was a brand designed to not only impact each and every client I have the honor to meet but to also make that person in my spray tan tent or makeup chair feel beautiful inside AND out. My goal is to create a brand and product line that serves that purpose all over the world.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I believe Makeupbysarahsmith is set apart from many makeup artists simply because I combined businesses together from a young age. At the age of 15, I started spray tanning and getting myself into the industry of beauty and sales while building those relationships that keep you growing and learning. I also believe we are different than the average MUA because we do offer not only makeovers, not only spray tans but also offer a product line that I created myself for my clients. My goal was to be the one-stop shop for all beauty needs and am still growing in that dream daily. At this point in my career with my beauty business, I am most proud of my product line and the hard work that went into building this all ground up as a young woman. Has it been easy? Absolutely not! However, nothing good is. I have definitely had my ups and downs with failures as any business does but as long as you keep on keeping on and learn from those mistakes, they aren’t mistakes. They are the lessons that shape you to be better in your next chapter. Something I want the world to know about my story is that if you wait to feel “ready” to get started with your dreams, you’ll always be waiting. I never felt ready or knew everything when I got started, I just got started. Whoever is reading this, I hope my story inspires you to simply get started with your story and your dreams.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my friend was visiting Houston for the first time I would absolutely start out by showing them our city’s food. We have the BEST food to offer. We’re starting off at the House Of Pies because that is my favorite dining spot and then heading to the galleria for some shopping. For dinner, I would take them to MAD because that’s an experience for the best food and drinks that everyone loves. Of course, we would check out the nightlife near downtown for their full city experience.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Some very special people in my life who deserve a shoutout would absolutely be my family. Each and every member of my family played a role in pushing me to be better than the day before. My mom individually, thank you for always letting me be who I am and supporting my visions in the beauty industry. If it wasn’t for you, I wouldn’t have known so much at a young age about the industry.
