We had the good fortune of connecting with Scott Glaser and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Scott, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
I’ve always taken risks in my life, in my earlier years most of them have been spur of the moment “jump in” type of risk. As i’ve grown and learned we all need to take a risk at times, just making sure they’re calculated is what’s important. I’ve changed careers many times, gone back to school at 29 and been an owner in at least 4 companies in my thirties. I’ll continue to take risks throughout my life. That doesn’t mean quit your job tomorrow to start a company. But it does mean you can take that step to get your LLC, or work on the marketing plan or do anything that you dream of in your spare time.
What should our readers know about your business?
Tpo Pros Roofing & Restoration is a company I started out of necessity. Having been in the roofing industry for another company previously, I saw a lot of poor decisions from management. How to treat employees, rushing jobs and more! It got to a point I was embarrassed to be selling roofs for them as I never knew if we actually would be fixing anything! I decided that all I had to do was the right thing. Not rush jobs, take care of people and the success and growth would follow. We’re nowhere near where I have envisioned but we’re on the right track. The Motivation Story is another brand I’m working on. This will hopefully be used as a platform for people to share their stories. Lastly – Soap For Him is a company I created as I’ve been in the Consumer Products industry for a little while and wanted to stay in that space.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
The First place we’d go is to Torchys Tacos – that place is the best. I’d take them to NASA and to get some BBQ at Truth. I’d take them to one of the many car meet ups Houston has. Before they left, I’d have to take them around Texas a bit to check out some other areas, Hill Country, Austin, San Antonio and Dallas.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
First of all my wife Paula, she’s stuck with me through all of the hard times, the grind and the continual sacrifice. My dad Robert Glaser & his wife Mishka Glaser. My mom and her husband Debbie Glaser & Dave Williams. Support from the people around you helps a ton to making things work. The Wolff Center for Entrepreneurship at the University of Houston. The #1 Entrepreneurship program in the country for Undergraduate – Curriculum at this program is like no other in the world – from working on your heart and your head. They only give this opportunity to the lucky 35 annual students that are selected. There are a ton of other people in my life that have had at least some sort of positive impact – Tony Carvajal, my WCE class of 18, WCE alumni, Bill Sherrill, Dave Cook, Mike Watts, Austin Hill, the list can go on forever. These are just some of the recent people over the last few years.
