We had the good fortune of connecting with Sean Burns and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sean, why did you pursue a creative career?
It gives me the most freedom to be anything I want to be. It gives me power. Being an artist feeds me creatively, it was something I didn’t know I needed until I found it, it filled that void in my life and continues to do so. I get the privilege to work with people who are just as invested in the art of storytelling as I am and that to me is such a privilege. The Covid-19 pandemic was a blessing in disguise for me, it gave me the opportunity to sit and think about what I truly wanted to do for the rest of my life after graduating from high school and after having conversations with my mother and mentor, becoming an actor just seemed like a no brainer to me.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
In my professional journey of being an actor I’ve learned that being collaborative isn’t going to work if it’s one-sided. I’ve learned that not many people are as committed to the work and the craft as I am and therefore you can risk being ostracized. I feel like what sets me apart from other actors is that I am open minded, I am willing to try any and everything for the sake of art. Others may disagree with me, but I’m still a rookie in this industry and I have nothing to be proud of yet, I’m still growing, I’m still learning, and I’m cherishing every moment I get to work with other artists. I want to be one of the greats and the road to greatness is never easy, it’s a long and hard journey and I’m just at the beginning of it.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d like to shout out my mother who is my number one supporter. I’d like to shout out my mentor Blake Weir who gave me the courage to become an actor.
I’d like to shout out Malcolm Carter one of the best storytellers I know.
And I’d like to shout out all the creatives in the world, you’re work is a ray of sunlight in a dark and chaotic world.
