We had the good fortune of connecting with Shachi Sanghavi and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shachi, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
Challenge Island foster 21st century skills like problem solving, critical thinking, leadership skills and more! Challenge Island helps the kids use their imagination and creativity to engineering challenges and not use screens which is much required in todays Tech world.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
At Challenge Island we provide hands-on, high interest program which is based on STEM/STEAM curriculum. The Challenge Island program and curriculum are designed to meet the needs of two entities: Today’s playful, imaginative child and tomorrow’s empowered, globally-successful adult. We rest this core mission on our foundational palm tree pillars.

We are proud that we introduced this program in our community and have had thousands of kids experience the Challenge Island magic. During the pandemic we were able to bend like palm trees and moved our program online, Our use of low-tech, every day materials make it possible to run our programs virtually while still allowing for plenty of collaboration and fun among kids.
We have brought this program to over 8,000 kids every year, and we hope this program can benefit and enrich the minds of thousands others.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Houston is a great place to visit and has some amazing restaurants and must see attractions. Day 1 – Memorial Park visit- brunch at Brennan’s of Houston – drive to the Museum district and dinner at Ninfa’s on Navigation a must to try for the famous Tex-Mex food!
Day 2- Visit the Herman park, – shop at Heights and Dinner at Musaafer a fine Indian dinning which is must if visiting Houston.
Day 3 – Make your way over to Montrose and enjoy the brunch at the famous Pondicheri . Explore the Railway market and shop from many small businesses. After a heavy brunch dinner can be at Velvet Taco which has many custom tacos and is open till 2am ( not many places in Houston are)
Weekend – visit must include the Houston Zoo, Discovery Green, Central Green at city center.
Cheese cake factory, Caracol, Potente, Wine and Pearl are few of the over 10,000 restaurants in the Houston area.
