We had the good fortune of connecting with Shakwanna Hadnott and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Shakwanna, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
Perfectly imbalanced…I think I am well on my way to the acceptance of this idea. Show me the person that has it all figured out when it comes to the notion of balance and I will reassure you they are telling you fibs. The most important part of my life is my faith in Christ and because of this I tend to use it as a guide for every other area in my life. My husband, Lawrence Hadnott, and I are the founding pastors of a local church community, The Church of True Conviction. In addition, I am the founder and director the nonprofit organization, Yes, I’m All That! Foundation which demands much of my time, however, family and home life gets the most of my time and attention. I am the proud parent of 5 beautiful children so balance is more of an idea, however, I rely on my faith to help me remain focused on things that are most important. Because of my faith, I understand that nothing was built in one day and rest is super important. Rest is something I definitely do not skip or take lightly. After my family is taken care of, I prioritize everything else by order of importance.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
It is my goal that every woman I come in contact with laugh in the face of challenge!!!! Through my nonprofit organization, Yes, I’m All That! Foundation, we seek to help women find their Christ gifted identity and gifts while surpassing the idea of potential through encouragement, mentoring and various programs. Our biggest reinforcement to the community is the Yes, I’m All That! Foundation Scholarship fund. It is our goal to help women with a desire to earn a college degree reach this goal. We are committed to helping women better themselves and the world around them. It has not been easy nor ready made but definitely worth it!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
This is the perfect question since the world is open once again!!!!!!! A trip to Houston would be totally incomplete if we did not wait an hour in line for the best gourmet turkey legs in America at the Turkey Leg Hut. We could work off the calories by dropping in on a Pilates session with Synergy Holistic Health. One of my favorite getaways are our museums. I can lost in the landscaping of the Menil Collection. My visiting friend will not leave disappointed!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Without hesitation, The Church of True Conviction, will get my recognition every single time. I must certainly send a warm shoutout to my family of faith based in Houston, Texas where everyone has committed to growth and change that will ultimately make an impact on our community.
