We had the good fortune of connecting with Shamim Malowa and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Shamim, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
I view risk taking is leaving your comfort zone to unchartered waters.
This said, it has to be calculated risks and not impulsive or being driven by fear of missing out.
Over time, with lots of research and consulting, risk taking has shaped my life at both personal and career levels.
I mean, what is the worst that can happen? I either learn or win either way a win is a win for me.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
It has been dedication, determination, focus and sacrifice.
All I keep doing is never give up and keep learning skills and industry knowledge.
It has been blood, sweat and tears but truly hard work pays.
I anchor myself in supplications and gratitude no matter the outcome. I embrace challenges and in the process learn something new.
You must have extensive knowledge, discipline and integrity all through; learn to be fair and stand your truth no matter what when building your network and career.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Eat, drink & hangout – local cuisines at amazing places with the city. Yunion restuarant at GTC Mall, Nomad Cafe at 104 Riverside and other beautiful places with clean, sumptuous meals.
Visit – Nairobi national park, a children’s home, Jamia Mosque with the CBD that has such rich history and of course My Great Nairobi Photo Gallery within GTC – Global Trade Centre – Nairobi to understand the history that has shaped Nairobi to what it is today and the great men and women behind it.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My mentor is/was my late dad.
He taught me most of what has shaped my corporate life and in general.
Above all, Allah has been my guide.
