We had the good fortune of connecting with Shanice Gordon and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shanice, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
The process behind starting my own business was simply due to being bored and inspired at the same time during the pandemic. I was inspired to create something that worked for my child. While also passing by time.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Becoming a mother is how I became a business owner. I’d heard so much information about the different uses of breast milk. My business was born after I made my first batch of Oat and Honey breast milk soaps. I let friends and family try some bars for feedback and started taking requests. No, I am not making breast milk soap for customers (lol). However, once I began researching and trying recipes I discovered hand crafting skin care items was something I enjoyed and am good at! I am most proud of myself for taking on the challenge of starting a business while taking care of a newborn during a pandemic. Lessons I have learned so far is that it’s ok to accept help and accept constructive criticism. I’d want the world to know my products are unique because they contain locally sourced honey! My fiancé is a beekeeper we have hives in our backyard.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We would eat at Darlene’s Shrimp Shack in Galveston. Literally some of the best shrimp I’ve ever had. The Boardwalk is also a place I feel tourist like to visit so we could definitely spend some time there.
Ador Houston, Flava Wings, & Turkey Leg Hut would also be on the “eat” list!
We would drink at Mo City Sports Bar & Grill. It is my favorite neighborhood hang out and the drinks are on point.
We would visit Discovery Green simply because it is such a nice park with plenty space for walking, picnic, and photos.
As a new Houstonian I’d take my friend to places I have visited and enjoyed and also look up some new places for us to experience together.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I am going to dedicate my shoutout to the inspiration behind my business; my daughter. Without her I would have likely never created my business. I was trying different products on her newborn skin and I decided I would make something for her. As a first time mother I just wanted to do right by my baby.
