We had the good fortune of connecting with Shawn Cashmere and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shawn, do you have some perspective or insight you can share with us on the question of when someone should give up versus when they should keep going?
I haven’t given myself any choices when it comes to deciding whether I should give up or keep going. Quitting is not an option . I wasn’t built to give up and as long as I still love what I do and I’m making a difference, that’s all I need.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
What sets me apart from others is that I have an intimate, deep love for what I do. I’ll take your favorite meal and re create it in a healthier way than what you may be accustomed to. The road has been bumpy and there have been naysayers, let downs and many mistakes along the way. I overcame by backing up, taking a break and reorganizing. I have learned to always be a student, never get too arrogant. I just want the world to watch out for me. You never know where or what I’ll be doing. Whatever it is, there’s going to be a positive impact.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
First we have to get Mexican food. I’d probably take them on a black restaurant tour. We’d end it with a good Texas steak. A drive out to Hill Country to visit some wineries would be great. I’m not big on the party scene anymore but we would go check out the Spot in the Tre’ and wing it the rest of the time. There’s so much to do in this city, My goal would just be to cover as much of Htown as possible.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My mother and my children, most definitely. My mother is brutally honest but very supportive. She always makes me feel as though I can do anything. I think sometimes I hear it in her tone that she may not agree with my choices but she never tells me it can’t be done. My children, although they are adults always cheer me on.
