We had the good fortune of connecting with Sheila M. Garcia and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sheila, what habits do you feel helped you succeed?
I feel that the key to success is discipline; however, you must always be willing to be flexible.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Life As She Does It is a creative services business. I am a boutique caterer and weekly meal prep chef, and my food not only tastes delicious but always looks like a work of art. I work very hard on that, as people eat with their eyes first! I am also a singer, and work hard at making that form of art what people desire, as music is the window to the soul. I am a writer, having published books, blogs and articles that are artfully written to help people find joy in the dark times that life can bring. I am also a motivatational and faith-based speaker, which is a form of art that pours into people and community.
I left a lucrative position in Corporate America to pursue a path that I truly believe God has designed specifically for me. It is not easy, but knowing that makes the road less rocky. I continously overcome challenges daily with that knowledge as well. There is always another way if the first way doesn’t work. Or the second. Or the third. ALWAYS ANOTHER WAY! I have learned many lessons along the way: things like hard times will always come and mistakes will always be made, but it’s how you handle those things that can make you or break you. Challenges make me want to do better; BE better. Fires can burn you like wood or refine you like a diamond. I choose DIAMONDS!
If I had to choose one thing I want the world to know about me and Life As She Does It, it’s that I work hard and care deeply through faith and the belief that I can make a difference in the way people view hard times.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend was visiting the area (though he’s my Husband, and already lives here), to show them the best time ever, I would clearly start with Vintağe, which is where I live! It is absolutely magical, and a place where hospitality and wonderful, delicious, healthy food abounds! Of course I would then make certain to show off other culinary venues Houston has to offer, but a can’t-miss is Texas Biergarten, where good food, tasty libations, and a good time with community is ALWAYS the case!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would LOVE give thanks to The Hubster, Adrian Garcia, for all of his efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement. Without him, I would never get it all done. BECAUSE of him, I do. He is the best partner, friend, and person I could ever ask for, and for all of those reasons, I dedicate this shoutout to him!
