We had the good fortune of connecting with Shellsy Malveaux and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Shellsy, alright, so let’s kick it off with a deep question: what’s the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
During this journey, I have learned some great qualities about myself, along with the bad. I have learned that keeping your balance in life is ESSENTIAL. I constantly struggle with time management and prioritizing all aspects of my life a.k.a. ‘I can be a hot mess’. With where I am going in my life, especially my career taking higher heights, I had to get my life together. Taking the time to say ‘no’ to certain situations and people, not allowing negative energy into the atmosphere, and being at peace with silent meditation is just a few things that helps with my balance. I can’t control the outside world, but I can control how I respond to it.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Hello there! I am a proud lifestyle blogger and book club founder. Also, I am in the process of starting my own coffee shop, you can add entrepreneur on my resume list now! Getting to where I am took: faith, hard work, patience, consistency, and drive. It was nowhere near easy to get where I am today. You have to believe in yourself and in what you are doing, no matter if you have 2,000 cheerleaders or none. The most important lessons that I have learned along the way with my work is that trusting God and yourself is essential and giving up is not an option. What I want the world to know is that THIS will not be the only time they will see my name. In the journey, you have to push yourself to bigger things and the coffee shop is the next big step for me. My purpose throughout my journey has always been to create a positive space and inspire others to be the best that they can be. The coffee shop is a bigger step towards reaching more people to do so.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
This is a walk in the park for me because I love Houston so much and I really want to make an impression on them! The city has SO many great hidden gems, I would have an exclusive tour. The art scene in the city is amazing, we will start in the museum district at the Menil Collection and The Houston Graffiti Park, bike ride through the Greater Heights area and grab lunch at the Someburger Hamburger Stand. Then, get dessert at Red Dessert Dive for their chocolate croissant bread pudding, walk through Emancipation Park and The French Fry House for specialized fries. I would end the day at The Conservation, a late hours hidden food court in the downtown area.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would love to recognize Alexandria Bland! She is an awesome writer and podcaster.
