We had the good fortune of connecting with Sherrie Handrinos and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sherrie, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The most important factor to my success, personally, is relationships. I have met and worked with some of the most amazing people over the past 15 years and when you are able to really get to know someone, not only does it make it easier to work with them, but you have a deeper connection than just a business to business or client relationship. Some of my clients are truly family, they know I care about their brand and treat it as my own, I pride myself on building organic, real and lasting relationships.

What should our readers know about your business?
Boost 1 Marketing was launched in 2009 in Detroit, Michigan. I was born and raised in Detroit, went to both Michigan State University and Wayne State University and my entire family still lives there to this day. My very FIRST clients were NFL stars, Herman Moore and Lomas Brown, they hired me to run their youth football camps over the summer, which ended up catapulting my client base to other NFL players such as Derrick Williams, now superstar TV personality, Nate Burleson, Calvin Johnson, Same Martin, Kyle VanNoy and of course, Stephen Tulloch. Which then grew our reach to corporate clients, restaurants, franchises and more as we had a special niche of connecting our clients to our athletes, to co-brand, partner on community outreach and more!
Upon coming to Houston in 2014, we began working with Twin Peaks Restaurants and continued go grow offices both in Detroit and Houston since!
Being a female in a male dominated industry (the NFL), it was NOT easy to get my business started as most men did not want a young woman coming in, and essentially doing things bigger and better than they had in the past.
I had to work harder than others, I had to change the way I dressed, presented myself, even went from being a blonde to dark hair, just so I could be taken more seriously in certain business settings. I wanted to quit so many times. But, I didn’t.
I am not sure I would call this a “lesson” but something I learned, is to just keep going. Outwork everyone. Do more than average. Do more than your clients expect. Work so hard that no matter what someone may think of our personally, they will NEVER be able to say “she didn’t do her job” – that is what I always have and continue to pride myself on, no one will ever outwork me.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Of course, I would have to take them around to all of our amazing clients spots, they are the hottest spots in town after all! First stop is always the Turkey Let Hut followed by stopping around third ward to The Savoy & The Spot for some drinks and hookah! Brunch at Thirteen and Graces, where there’s a drink named after me called “The Sherrie” (highly recommend) is a must, then showing them around some of the fun areas such as the Plant Project in Montrose and local shops in Rice Village. If my pop-up, Houstonopoly, was still open, I would have also taken them to that for some fun H-Town photos!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The person I would dedicate this to is Stephen Tul.loch. From the first day we began working working together in 2011 when he signed his contract with the Detroit Lions, we have overcame numerous obstacles, injuries, life and have conquered anything that came at us. He trusted me with his brand and is a true leader not only on the football field but as a human and current business owner. He encourages and inspires me and is the one person I know I can pick up the phone and call, good or bad, and he will always be there for me. I appreciate him more than he knows!
