We had the good fortune of connecting with Shunelett Myintthu and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shunelett, what makes you happy? Why?
My happiness stems from spending quality time with those closest to me and getting to do the things that I am passionate about. Even though 2020 was a difficult year with fewer human interactions, I felt as though it also strengthened the bonds that I have and hold onto. When I did see my family or select friends, they never failed to make me smile or laugh during tough times. I also love working on my hobbies, such as music or photography. This year, I definitely improved my photography skills and even began freelancing/doing paid shoots as a result!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
As a freelancer and photography, I do marketing work such as social media management and branding as well as photoshoots for graduations, engagements, etc. While I initially did these things for fun, this year, I turned these activities into paid ones since I felt that it was time to put some of my skills to use. I especially worked hard on my photo-taking and photo-editing abilities so that I can get to a professional level. I think I am most proud of my drive to continuously get better at the things I love. I am also proud of myself for taking a leap of faith and applying my skills in a professional setting. Especially with photography, doing shoots has allowed me to step outside of my comfort zone and get to know different people’s stories.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If I had to take someone to my favorite spots in Austin (granted there was no Covid), I’d first take them to beautiful viewpoints such as Mount Bonnell or Pennybacker Bridge. Then, I’d take them to a nice dinner at restaurants like Taverna or Culinary Dropout at the Domain. If they prefer something more casual, I’d definitely take them to Velvet Tacos for the most unique and tasty tacos in town. For some nightlife, I’d take them out to Rainey to check out some fun bars. Lastly, some other enjoyable spots I’d show them are Zilker Park, Barton Springs, and the Capitol.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Throughout my entire life, my family has always been my rock. They constantly push me to do my very best and support me in many ways. My family makes me believe in the importance of hard work and keep me strong so that I never give up on. my goals.
