We had the good fortune of connecting with Sir Colavito and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sir, what is the most important factor behind your success?
I would say, following a non-traditional business model and going against the status quo. Philanthropy and relationships are my focal points instead of revenue. VIUZS (pronounced views) is an internal commitment of donating a percentage of profits to charitable efforts. The meaning is an acronym for volunteering and impacting universal issues with zeal and selflessness. Predominantly operating in activewear for women, VIUZS donation’s focus on causes that drastically affect women. Examples are breast cancer, domestic violence, ovarian and cervical cancer, human trafficking, to access too equal opportunity, economic equality, and sexism. We look to proliferate our relationships with non-profits that support women over the next few years. We also look to offer a scholarship that alleviates patriarchy and the lack of women in positions of power in the workplace for future generations. This is an important factor behind the success of I Am Xellence. We removed the E & C in excellence, because we do not make excuses or say I can’t. We are not just an activewear line or clothing brand, we actually make a societal difference with every purchase.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
What sets me apart is that I get more encouraged and motivated by anyone who doubts me. That characteristic is what got me through college & graduate school. If the Hulk gets stronger the angrier he gets, then I get stronger when people doubt me. My motor is non-stop, I will not sleep until I figure something out. I got where I am today by ensuring myself not to be another statistic. I did not come from the best environment, but it was up to me, not to become a product of that environment. Things I learned along the way include: delaying gratification, maintaining healthy mental and emotional habits, & build lifelong relationships. I am most excited most about the upcoming legging releases. Things have really taken off much faster than expected. I usually do not celebrate accomplishments because in my mind, I have not done anything and there is so much more to do.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
That is a tough one, I am always working, traveling for business, and generally I am a home body. I would recommend an Astros, Dynamo, Rockets, or Texans game. I would also recommend Space Center Houston, the Aquarium, Saint Arnold’s Brewery, and the Museum of Natural Science.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are countless individuals I would like to shout-out and thank for their efforts. This is a great mental exercise for me because there are so many. Rapid fire off the top of my head, let’s go!
