We had the good fortune of connecting with Skiler Joi and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Skiler, what do you want your legacy to be?
I want people to remember that I’m an entertainer and musician I know that sounds cliche but seriously I dedicate a good portion of my time to getting better if it’s with audio engineering learning more so how less is more or maybe this plugin sounds better when used like this and even with singing learning how to curve notes and say so much but still not too wordy. I put in so much work it’ll be a insult to me if people don’t remember how great I am with what I do
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Honestly never giving up got me to where I am today. As cliche as that statement is it’s true I started recording music at 16, I’m now 27 and I feel like the music I’ve been creating and directing now really represents me. Like this is my sound. When I first started I just was putting things together didn’t really think anything out just if it sounds good it’s good. The lessons that I’ve learned just to always have a open mind and not be afraid to take pointers from people in the same lane as you we’re all growing here.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Oh wow I would take my friend to the studio of course. I’ve actually had a couple friends hang out with me as I work. They’re always amazed because not many know how much work goes into making a song.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I definitely think that if it wasn’t for my engineer Brenae Davis of One Sound Recording studios in Memphis that I’d still be figuring it out. She helped me with not only putting my music together but also being able to help someone put there’s together.
