We had the good fortune of connecting with Sonia Morris and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sonia, how do you think about risk?
I risked it all I had a good business in Milwaukee but I wanted more so I packed up and moved to Texas. I worked hard stayed consistent and everything worked out my business is doing well. I have a product line that I’m pushing Silk press System. Without taking risks you will never know. Taking risks has really pushed me. I not afraid off hard work. I’ve always been a risk taker. I’m very loyal to what I do I been in the industry for over 26 years so I’ve been doing this a lifetime and I’m still passionate about my work and making women feel beautiful.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I wasn’t licensed for sometime I stared school and stopped life situations prevented me from completing. Cosmetology School. But I was determined to finish I had a clientele so it was hard to go back to school I had to take care of my family I was working as an apprentice under my mother. I owned my own salon but was lacking that license. Even though I was a great stylist I didn’t feel complete. So when I moved to Texas I stopped doing hair for a while was a waitress (ha ha)something I never did before and I went to school full time and got my hours it was hard work but I did it. I got licensed and it’s been up from there. I’ve been pushing my products I have a full line. Helping women and men with healthy moisturize hair. I became Sonia Blade I love to cut and style, color I am a healthy hair stylist working with natural or relaxed hair I also provide Luxury hair extensions. I take pride in educating my clients on proper ways to take care of their hair between visit I just love what I do. I been in business for over 26 years I started when I was about 17 working and being trained by mom.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Most definitely would take them to Brunch on Sunday it’s a must. Texas has great food options Seafood for sure. We would go shopping. Site seeing I like the beach.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Ok it’s my mother (Yolan Morris) shes a Stylist also I learned a lot from her and her stylist friends how to be professional a lot of techniques that are the foundation of hair styling that are being used today. She resides in Milwaukee she’s my mentor. She’s still active. I use to cut her mannequins into bobs when I was about 12 she encouraged me to be risk taker and a go getter.
