We had the good fortune of connecting with Spero Rehab and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Spero, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
Katie Bouchillon founded Spero Rehab in 2010 with the hope of creating a multi-disciplinary outpatient rehab center that helps individuals from all walks of life recover from orthopedic or neurological injuries. Our physical and occupational therapists work with community members to decrease aches and pains, but also regain independence after traumatic injuries such as a stroke, a brain injury, or a spinal cord injury. We directly strive to improve the health of Houstonians and have a dedicated staff with some team members that also volunteer their free time to treat the uninsured and under-insured, completely free of charge, in partnership with the local organization RSVP. We hope to continue growing our social impact with community projects that raise awareness and educate others about disability, bridge the gap between individuals and the US healthcare system, and encourage people to live healthy and active lives.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Spero Rehab was named after the latin word for ‘hope’. That origin is incredibly valuable and meaningful to each and everyone of us. When Katie Bouchillon first opened the clinic in 2010, it was with the desire to bring hope to people as they battle injury, and walk alongside them on their road to recovery. Nearly 13 years later, we are proud to have seen that mission grow, and have been touched by our patients’ unique stories and journeys. What sets us apart is our passionate team with diverse specialties which allow for our clinic to house both orthopedic and neurological rehab under one roof, a double specialty that is not commonly seen. We also have a state of the art zero entry pool with an underwater treadmill which we incorporate in the recovery plan of many of our patients. We strive to create a welcoming environment that makes both patients and caregivers feel at home. We also host engaging events for our patients and our local community and seek to leave a positive mark wherever we are.
Spero Rehab truly is a special place where milestones are met, goals are conquered, and dreams are achieved.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We have a lot of places to recommend in the Katy area!
No Label Brewery in old Katy is our staff’s go to spot for happy hour. There are often delicious food trucks, and an outdoor playground which makes the place friendly for both kids and adults
Brookwood Café in Brookshire is definitely the spot we would recommend for lunch. The entire wait staff is made up of adults with disabilities and they serve some delicious food.
Andretti is close to our clinic and is a fun place to play arcade game or go kart, one of our favorite team building activity
Last, but certainly not least, we also love Howdy homemade ice cream, which is another establishment that employs adults with special needs and serves delicious refreshing ice cream for this Texas heat
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
We are very grateful for the local businesses and organizations that we have partnered or collaborated with in the past such as 9ers Grill, Katy Christian Ministry, ProCare orthotics, Vanguard Rehabilitation, Howdy Homemade Ice cream, Rewalk Robotics, H Robotics and many others.
