We had the good fortune of connecting with Stacy and Chad Smith and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Stacy and Chad, how did you come up with the idea for your business?
During the spring of 2020 pandemic, that was a scary time for the world. So much was unknown. Empty flat or shelves, closed churches and schools, rioting of burning building in Minneapolis. I felt we were at a time more than ever, that we needed a positive & inspirational approach. A “back to the basics” thought. Since churches and large wedding venues were closed down, couples still wanted to wed. Small & intimate ceremonies were getting popular. Along with having a quaint place to pray & calmly surround oneself around peaceful gardens… I felt a country chapel set in beautiful gardens and ponds was perfect for the times! It’s what we all needed!
But I wanted not just any chapel.
One look at the Midwest (and entire countryside), you will see most all those pioneer country churches being abandoned or torn down and being replaced by inexpensive congregations held in old warehouses, or in generic pole buildings or merely brick and mortar. The proud architecture of a century ago has become hard to find. The tall, hand carved altar sets have been replaced by a modern pulpit.
Those beautiful pioneer country white churches were so important to the settlers of our ancestors. I wanted to preserve the past.
A tall steeple, fancy stained glass windows & a 14 foot altar are some of the features I included in my chapel. A place where everyone, all denominations are welcome!
A beautiful and unique place to get married! Not one like around!
The farms at Angels of the Prairie is also back to the basics of organic vegetable gardens, several water gardens filled with Japanese Koi, even a peacock can be heard in the aviary!
Angels of the Prairie also has a boutique that sells inspirational gifts and decor, along with our own line of botanical lotions and candles!
What should our readers know about your business?
I feel in today’s world, creativity is very important! You have to set yourself apart from others by being different and not worry about what others think. We are all unique and have a story! We all have our own thoughts that drive us in our ambitions. A few people asked me, “why did you build a church”? Why not?! When you see wedding venues, you see rustic barns or upscale urban dining halls. Not too many places have several gardens, koi ponds and a historic church with a well documented past from the Prairies of North Dakota!
If it’s meant to be, you’ll find a way. People will come into your life to help make it happen. Things will all eventually come together! Mostly, don’t be afraid to be different ! That alone, just maybe your success!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Angels of the Prairie is located in Cambridge Minnesota which is one hour north of downtown Minneapolis. Minneapolis is well known as a very artistic city full of musicians artists and great culinary.
Specifically Cambridge is a small river town. we have a quaint downtown filled with historic restaurants bars and a movie theater!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
The chapel was originally a gift from my husband chad for our 10 year wedding anniversary in which we renewed our vows in last October! Chad has been a professional landscaper for 25 years and has owned his own landscape company since 2005! This also is the reason why the landscaping is so beautiful there!
He loves me dearly, and wanted to build a place where I can honor all my family in Heaven, a special place to renew our vows & a place to share with others that either are looking for a beautiful ceremony place or a peaceful place of solace. I couldn’t do it without him!
