We had the good fortune of connecting with Stacy Iwunze and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Stacy, what is the most important factor behind your success?
I personally think the most important factor to my success is God. Yes, I know it’s pretty cliche and an easy answer. However, I don’t think people really go into depth on the how and why. So here’s my why and how I’ve been able to accomplish so much at 21. Even though from my perspective I still have so much I want to get done, I can stand on both feet and say I have been able to and will accomplish all of my goals because I was patient, authentic, and obedient to Gods plans for me. Once I was able to set aside the doubts and fears that was weighing on my dreams, He was able to do the rest. This was done with Him providing great friends that aligned with my purpose, amazing mentors, and other kind people that He placed along the way to help me reach my goals. If it wasn’t for all of these people in my life, I honestly have no idea what kind of life I would be living right now. But don’t get me wrong everything isn’t glitz and glam. I did go through many seasons of sadness which made me stop chasing my dreams for a little while because I didn’t think I was good enough. All in all, I believe that when you’re able to get through one hump, the success that follows surpasses every trial.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My art? I have never really defined it as that only because my art is an extension of myself, and when people see “my art” or the work I’m apart of I hope that they get to see a piece of my emotion, my story, and the happiness I feel when I’m doing something I love. To also answer your question I think I’m most proud of or excited about how I get to show a piece of myself to whoever is willing to see or listen. Getting to this point though was not easy. It took a lot of faith and intentionaltiy to believe that this is something I can could potentially make a career and actually enjoy doing every single day. When coming from a family of immigrants the primary goal is to make your parents proud and go after what’s presented to you, like being a law/ doctor. When you decide to follow a different path the challenge starts a home. First getting your family/ yourself to believe the foreign road you’re taking will bring you not only happiness but success. But to also have the courage mixed with faith to believe even though you have no one in your circle that has physically taken the same path; that God will provide all you need once you hit the road. Then, once you hit the road you will hit the road, fall off it and even make a wrong turn, but through prayer and a loving support system you’ll start seeing the impact you are making on the side of road that you didn’t get to notice when you were down. All that to say, the trails you are going to face will be solutions for the future so don’t ever give up even when it seems like there’s no other way, because there’s always a way you just have to be in the positive mindset to see it.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I am a very adventurous person, so I would definitely try to go hiking two times out the week and for the rest of the days go running/jogging at memorial park. Since, Houston is the perfect place to eat for lunch I would take her to either lost & found, midwest coney connection, Daves hot chicken, the waffle bus or chopnblok. While, for brunch I would go to the taste bar, jus’ Mac, Kamp, and drip coffee cafe. As you can see I love food so for 60% of the trip we’ll be eating and for the other half I would take her to a sip and paint, karaoke night, bowling night on Tuesdays, and our adult arcades.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Wow, I have so many people I want to dedicate my shoutout too. But if I start now well we’ll be here forever, so I’ll like to give one big shoutout to God, my family/friends, the beautiful women I call my mentors and everyone who has lend me advice, an opportunity, or even some food. Without you guys my story would be a lot different then it is today so thank you!
