Meet Stéfano Obregón | Illustrator

We had the good fortune of connecting with Stéfano Obregón and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Stéfano, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Since I was a kid I felt attracted to the arts, so I always dreamed of dedicating myself to it. I am Spanish, and unlike in the United States, in Spain it is not easy to work on your own and start your own business, here the state does not help you practically at all and you have to pay exorbitant fees and taxes every month. Despite this, I decided to start my business as a illustrator about 4 years ago and at the moment I am surviving haha.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am an illustrator from northern Spain. I am specialized in creating conceptual illustrations for editorial, advertising campaigns and websites. My style is defined by the simplicity of my characters and situations. I use textures and very powerful color palettes mixed with fresh ideas to get all the attention.
Getting to where I am now was not easy because, as I said before, starting a business in Spain is not easy, the state does not support you enough and you have to pay very high fees and taxes. But even though it’s difficult, my family always taught me that you should never give up and that you have to fight for your dreams, so here I am, at least trying.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Any city in the north of Spain is spectacular, I think it is unknown to people from other countries and when they discover it they are really impressed. Green landscapes, mountains, sea… it has it all! Also a spectacular gastronomy. The Basque country, Cantabria, Asturias and Galicia are the communities that make up the North of Spain and any of their cities and small towns are impressive. You can enjoy the best seafood you’ve ever tasted before and the best meats, cheeses, wine… Believe me, it’s a place you fall in love with.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I have always felt supported especially by my girlfriend Ana and my family, they always supported my decisions and respected that I chose to study art. They have always valued my work and my efforts to be able to move forward in such a difficult profession.
