We had the good fortune of connecting with Stephen Marchione and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Stephen, what do you attribute your success to?
I would say the key contributing factors to my success have been

– Receiving a guitar performance BA from Naropa University
– Studying spanish art and culture at Cooper Union
-Completing an SBA business program at Baruch College
-Receiving training from a variety of people knowledgeable in craftsmanship, music, and business professionalism

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I studied both guitar making and violin making which provided me with the rare ability to make my own modern designs using centuries old violin making techniques. Taste, tone, and tenacity, along with having a thorough understanding of how to run a business have allowed me to be where I am at today. A challenge I faced was learning how to make money as a professional artist but I have learned that success in my field can only come by having focus, drive, and extreme attention to detail to exceed my client’s expectations. Seeing professional musicians play my instruments in large venues and record hundreds of albums is gratifying and it brings me joy to see so many people enjoy my instruments.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
A couple of fun things that I like to do around Houston are:

– The Menil Museum and then wine and cheese at Bistro Menil
-Lunch at Empire Cafe
-Walk the Allen parkway bayou trail
-Dinner at Ostia
-Drinks at the bar at Hugo’s
-Live music at House of Blues

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to credit my parents with exposing me to music, art, and Italian culture and language, which ignited my passion for being an artist.
