We had the good fortune of connecting with Susan Langlois and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Susan, career-wise, where do you want to be in the end?
The end goal of my writing career is to Spread Hope. That was the first goal and will be in place at the end.
Through the written word, I want to reach as many readers as I can in one lifetime, inspiring them.
Then, perhaps, the end of my career will mark the beginning of another generation spreading hope.
Spreading hope is more than the end goal; it’s an ALWAYS goal.
HOPE for NOW and ALWAYS.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Through adversity, we grow. I struggled through life as a detached kid with hearing loss, unable to connect with people because relationships are built through conversation. Withdrawing into myself, I began making up stories in my head. Falling into what I call the darkness of deafness, I reached the bottom of the pit and looked up. That’s when I found Faith. As an adult, I started writing the stories of adversity, with a positive spin.
These were stories of HOPE AND FAITH.
All of my stories are historical fiction children’s books. In each story, the character encounters an adverse situation and must attempt to overcome the ensuing circumstances. Real world topics of my stories include: Hurricane Harvey, Covid Pandemic, a rescued dog who pays it forward, learning to love a new little sibling and overcoming fears.
The most talked about part of ALL MY BOOKS is the section at the end, titled: BEHIND THE STORY. This is a section of actual photos that inspired the story. This collage of photos demonstrates that just as there are there heroes in picture book stories, there are REAL heroes in everyday life.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Best Evening in The Woodlands Kayak all along Lake Woodlands, watching the turtle sunning and egrets posing. For a few hours of natural beauty, we have brought along scones from HUMMINGBIRD Tea Room and coffee in a thermos. We finally dock at Northshore Park, ready for our evening meal.
Dinner is The Don pizza at Grimaldi’s with a glass of Coppola red, sitting on the porch, watching the fountains dancing to the live music.
After dinner, we must take a walk along The Woodlands Waterway and listen to the live music coming from The Woodlands Pavilion. Suddenly we are at Kirby’s Ice House, perfect to watch the rest of the baseball game on one of the many TVs and a cold brew – because BASEBALL!
When the game ends, we laugh and talk about life. We talk about how much fun we had. And doing it all over again!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Kelly Bennett is an author who helps other writers find their voice, courage and genre. She is a mentor who knows that the writing process is exciting but can also be messy. Despite the sometimes grueling process, she stays until the end. Mike Kowis is an author and lawyer. He understands the daunting challenge of self publishing and wants to help others find their pathway to successfully completing the process. He is never too busy to answer questions!
Qamber Designs & Media is authentic design agency dedicated to creating outstanding designs tailored to the needs of writers. They specialize in book branding, doing the book covers and interiors for several of my books. Through several books, I have been working mostly with Jenn for several years although I have corresponded with the company founders, too. We all have a strong relationship. The most critical aspect of collaborative process between writer and book designer is TRUST. I am grateful for the honesty and professionalism established in our relationship. There is a strong bond of trust between us!
