We had the good fortune of connecting with Sydney Clayborn and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sydney, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
Pretty GRLS Lead helps the community around us through the programs and resources we offer. So many women have HUGE visions that they want to make reality. Their biggest obstacle? Not having people in their corner who can help them bring it to life. PGL fills this gap by connecting women with professionals in industries like finance, faith, and marketing to help them connect the dots in their vision while also helping them build the foundational skills necessary to sustain it. We not only help women connect with others who can help but we also have managed to build a community of women who continues to support one another beyond the events they attend.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
To be where I am at in business took a lot of trial and error. But through every failure, I always managed to learn more than I would’ve if i had not failed. Too often people just want a quick ride to success but I realized that slow and steady and wins the race. For me, I was more focused on achieving longevity in business rather than a quick buck. To be a sustainable business, you have to go through some things and gain much wisdom to see your business flourish. Way too often we try to bypass the struggles, not understanding that our struggles and challenges is what will set us ahead rather than behind. I challenge every business owner and even professional to seek out the lessons in their failures rather than dwelling on what didn’t work. Instead, try to figure out what you could’ve did differently and how you can apply that wisdom to the next endeavor instead.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My favorite thing to do here in Chicago is to eat! When my best friend comes to visit, I always scope out new places for us to try. I would plan a food and drink tour around the downtown area (Of Any city!) and be sure to pick places that will give the best experience while also looking good for photos for course. The best places to check out here is Michigan Avenue, the beach, Millennium Park, and the 360 SkyDeck for an amazing view.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to dedicate this shoutout to the army of women who have always backed me and supported my every vision, the women who always pushed me to make it happen without doubting the vision or the process while also pooling their own resources to make everything a success! To make this more special I want to shoutout Ki, Shardae, Monica, Jasmine, Innis, Ariel, Gabby, Ebonee, Avi, Treasure, Shannon, Kairah, Taylor, Kia, Takeia, and my Mom. It’s plenty more women where this came from, especially those who have supported blindly and just wanted to be part of PGL and what we do!
