We had the good fortune of connecting with OG Shyne and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi OG Shyne, why did you pursue a creative career?
It was more like a gravitational pull. I never thought of this as a career, it’s just something i’ve always enjoyed that I’ve learned how to manage. I’ve always been artistic. Even as a kid, I’ve been drawn towards things art, cultural, and expression wise: clothing, drawing, music, video games, & etc. Those are just a few things as a kid that i truly enjoyed, and that still resonate in my life today heavy.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My musical art was always meant to capture energy and emotions, and not only that, meant to enjoy. One of the things I am very most proud of is my latest project Shyne Worldwyde 2. That’s my baby. the message and concepts i had for that project were brought to life all to well. Even though it’s 2 years old in June, it’s STILL my baby and it STILL jam. The route to professionalism was simple trial and error, and to avoid and negativity, or more error, I’ve learned to trust myself and trust those that want to see me wholeheartedly succeed. The circle is small. As far as my brand, Shyne Worldwyde, I just want people to know that my brand and my story is very left field, but it all made me, and ultimately that I’ve always been true to myself and what i stand for. Shyne worldwyde and how i carry myself definitely enhances that. Now my graphic brand, Shyne Gallery, was also definitely a trial and error thing. I taught myself graphics around 2014-15? And I was doing graphic work for free just trying to learn and perfect my craft. I’ve now done work for and with LNEM, Hennything, RichGod and more. Those are just a few.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We’d go eat so much food lol. Prospect park, Flying Fish, Axel rad, Turkey Leg Hut. I’d take them to places like Options, Pavement, Imperial, and of course the gallo for shopping, and Esp Buffalo bayou park There so much to do, eat, shop, and see here this list could go on forever, but these are some of my favorite places to be in houston.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The whole Houston underground. Like the whole hip hop community here. There isn’t a handful of people, it’s the whole ecosystem. From the Djs, to the curators, to the photographers, local clothing brands, venue holders, and more. They are what assembles an artist. So I gotta thank everything, and everyone who has ever been apart of OG Shyne and my brand.
