We had the good fortune of connecting with T.T. Carson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi T.T., is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The most important factor behind my success, is my sister Tina. She has been by my side since I decided to do comedy. She takes care of my daughter on the nights I have shows and even open mic. Tina understands comedy is not just doing shows, but also practicing at open mics. I’m extremely lucky to have her in my corner and as my sister.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Comedy is the hardest form of entertainment, and I’m a student in this industry. What sets me apart from other comics is me. I have my own style and I’m not trying to be like anyone else. My comedy comes from my life experiences, so I can really get dramatic with my jokes. I’v learned a lot since I started doing comedy, but I have a lot more to learn. One of the many lessons I’ve learned is, when asked to do a show, ask if it’s paid. I’ve never had a problem doing shows for free, but when I found out others were getting paid and I wasn’t, that’s when I had a problem. Another lesson I learned is, you don’t have to have new jokes every time you hit a stage. When I first started doing comedy, I had real bad anxiety over not have any good new jokes. I thought saying the same jokes over and over meant I wasn’t good enough for comedy. A veteran comic told me, to work on the same jokes until you perfect them, and that’s what I’ve been doing. I’ve come a long way from when I first started. I remember I used to struggle with transitioning from one joke to another. Or when I used to say my jokes so fast, that I never gave the audience enough time to laugh or register what I said. I would be so nervous and excited at the same time, that I would be done in 3 minutes. But I over came those challenges by going to go to open mics multiple times a week. I would not be where I am if I didn’t have the opportunity to practice my jokes at open mics. I want the world to know that I’m here and it’s my turn. One of these days the world will know my name, and I will have fans in every country.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend came to visit for a week, depending on what season we are in we would go to a Houston Rockets game, a Texan’s game or Astros game. After the game, we would hit up a The Address or Swagger for some drinks and hookah. On Monday we would go to Axelrad so my bestie could see me perform my stand-up comedy. On Tuesday we would go to Swagger for more comedy, drinks and hookah. On Wednesday we would go to Open Table HTX for good food, drinks and a vibe. Thursday, were going to The Address for steak night and drink specials and hookah. Friday were at The Domain for R&B night, then well head to 3rd ward and go to D’bar for more drinks and hookah. Saturday and Sunday is for day parties. We Weill go to brunch at Lost and Found or 5015. After brunch, it’s time to bar hop. We will go to Faces, The Spot, The Locker Room or Seaside Lounge.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d like to shoutout my sister Tina. She has been supporting me since I started comedy. I don’t know what it’s like to not have a good relationship with my sister. She is encouraging and she helps me care for my daughter. It if wasn’t for Tina, I don’t know where I’d be today, in any aspect of my life. Tina really makes my life easier and I’m extremely lucky to have her as my sister and in my life.
