We had the good fortune of connecting with Taneisha Polite and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Taneisha, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My thought process behind my business was to just do it. At the start up of Sweet Petals CupCakery, I was a single mom of an 11 year old who was involved with everything from sports to hanging out with friends. I was working a dead end job that I wasn’t the happiest with and decided to take a leap of faith. I have long been a baker and would bake from time to time for family and friends, but after a conversation with my Grandma Betty, I decided to take the leap of faith. Of course there is the fear of failure, but with faith I was willing to take the risk of my potential to fly!
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Sweet Petals CupCakery is a local home based bakery in Maitland, Fl. We offer creative fresh-made and perfectly hand-piped cupcakes. We offer a special edible arrangement called a “Boucake” which is our floral cupcakes arranged to look like a bouquet of real flowers. The buttercream used to pipe these perfect petals is our signature and is to die for! I am most excited about our continued growth and our possibility of being in a store front by 2023, be sure to keep an eye out for us!

Has this journey been a smooth road? Absolutely not! There are daily struggles. I wear many hats! In addition to being a small business owner, I am a full-time single mom and also a full-time working professional. Some days it seems as if the weight of the world is on my shoulders, but I have continued to press on. After juggling my many hats throughout the day, my nights are dedicated to my business. Whether it’s training myself on new flowers or experimenting with different flavors, I am up working. Most nights I sleep 5-6 hours but I understand the end goal is greater than the current struggles. Each and every day, I make a conscious decision to be better than I was yesterday.

I would love the world to know that Sweet Petals CupCakery is a brand built on faith. I am just a girl out here faithing it until I make it. If someone truly knew my story, they would question how is it that never gave up, how I have continued to go on? If I can be an inspiration to just one person, Sweet Petals has made a difference in my book. My story remains to be told, as it is still be written. My words of advice: “If you can look up, you can get up. Keep the faith and never, ever give up!”

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend were visiting, I would take them to Cocoa Beach.

We would check out the beach, visit Ms. Apple’s Crab Shack (They have some of the best fresh seafood). We would check out Jetty park to see the dolphins and sleep in an RV for the night. Hopefully there would be a space launch while she was here because that is definitely a site to see.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to dedicate my Shoutout to my forever best friend, my son, Sean.

If there were no Sean, there would be no me. Sean saved me at one of the darkest moments in my life. He came in and has literally been the light of my life. Sean has pushed me to become better and to want better. Times I feel like giving up, I know that isn’t an option. I have you depending on me to make it. Thank you for all that you have been to me. Thank you for loving me unconditionally!

Sean, if only you knew, you’ve carried me so much more than I’ve carried you.

Thank you for choosing me to be your mama!
