We had the good fortune of connecting with Tasha Renee Colas and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tasha Renee, is there something you believe many others might not?
One piece of conventional advice that I disagree with is “bloom where you are planted.” In fact, in an upcoming women’s conference that my ministry is hosting, we’ve adjusted this piece of advice to reflect what I agree with to say “bloom, just the way you were planted.”

The message behind this isn’t that we remain stagnant refusing to grow, but rather that we return to the individuals we were created to be and bloom from there. This helps to assure that we are blooming from the right place.

I’ve found that returning to the place before life experiences were given the opportunity to influence our identities, is the purest place to grow from. It’s the place where we are our truest selves. It’s the place that is clear of all of the judgements, hurts, pains, and advice of others, that may have caused us to alter our perspective of ourselves. So prior to blooming, I believe that we ought to momentarily look back in our lives, identify the “thing” or “things” that may have altered the trajectory of our lives, course correct if necessary, and then begin planting seeds there. It’s in that moment that we’ll feel the most fulfilled.

What should our readers know about your business?

Chapter 7 Ministries is a nonprofit organization created from my own experience.

I spent years chasing a dream that seemed unattainable for me, followed by years unsure of who I was supposed to be. I felt like I was in bondage during those years in a constant uphill battle, not really sure of where to go or what to do with my life, so instead I wore the many masks that others had placed on me since my adolescent years. Then something happened in 2019 where God used the women in a small group I led at my local church, to speak life into me, and help set me free. Having that support and seeing how it changed the trajectory of my life made me wonder what the world would be like if every woman had a support system like that. With that thought in mind I endeavored to create a space where such a thing could be possible. That’s when Chapter 7 was born.

Chapter 7 envelopes the idea that you are already capable of doing all of the things you’ve felt led to do, you just need help cultivating those tools. This idea is hidden in its very name. I’m often asked, where I got the name Chapter 7 from.

Chapter 7 is based on the biblical scriptures of Judges 6 and 7 that tells the story of Gideon, a solider of God that conquered a mighty nation. In chapter 6, when Gideon is called to be a warrior for God, he doubts that God has called the right person because he doesn’t believe in himself. He doesn’t believe that he could be the “mighty man of valor” that God called him in the very beginning, and actually believes that God has made a mistake. However, by the end of chapter 6 he decides to take a stand and go forward with the instructions God gave him, which was to destroy the pagan god that the people there currently worshipped. As a result of his obedience, he gains a new respect from his peers, leading them to call him a completely different and mightier name in chapter 7.

Our goal at Chapter 7 is to help every woman step into their chapter sevens. Our mission to love, restore, and elevate women is carried out by hosting several life-changing events including our women’s retreat called “Arise! Women’s Gathering,” and our aforementioned women’s conference called “Bloom: Just the way you were planted.” Again, these events are geared towards awakening or re-awakening the gifts that lay dormant inside of each woman so that they can live their lives to their full potential.

Although small in numbers, starting out with just a team of one; me, we’ve always been mighty. In one year, we’ve helped change the lives of almost 50 women through our retreats and additional outreach events, and donated over 400 toys to Arrow Family & Child Ministries in partnership with our local church. This equated to 127 children in foster care receiving Christmas gifts last year, who may not have received much otherwise.

With the fact that we started in the midst of a pandemic, it wasn’t easy getting people on board with our vision. However, once individuals joined and saw the positive impact we had on the ladies of our communities, Chapter 7 began gaining a name for itself. With the growth in awareness of Chapter 7 came more support. We are still in the building phase, and so we are still figuring out how to gain more financial support so that we continue to expand, but we are definitely headed in the right direction.

What I’ve learned from this walk in entrepreneurship, particularly ministry building, is that God is the author of my story; I’m not my own author. The premise of that is that I had so many thoughts and ideas of how I believed Chapter 7 would look and where it would go, but those thoughts were not entirely accurate. I’d have some of the pieces to the puzzle and would plan according to what I could see, but God has always had something better that was beyond my understanding. I’ve had to learn to yield to God’s will and let Him do His thing. Each time that I have done this, I’ve been amazed at the outcome.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?

If my bestie were here I’d definitely have to take her to brunch. Brunch is my thing! My go to’s are Snooze and First Watch. One of the days during the week we’d have to take the kids and visit the Houston Aquarium or the Space Center.

I’d hope that they’d have someone performing live at First Colony Mall in Sugar Land, so I’d take her there for a night outing. On Friday night I’d take her to Burger Ranch in Cypress for the best fried pickles I’ve found so far and for mid day on Saturday Rosehill Beer Garden, also in Cypress. What better way to end the week than with visiting my church in Katy called Church of the King and then heading to Cool Runnings Jamaican Grill for their Sunday Buffet and live music.

Only being in Houston for seven years, there’s still so much I myself have to explore. I’d take the opportunity to find some new places with her. For instance, we love karaoke. We need to find a great karaoke spot!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d like to shoutout my best friend Ashley Sweeting. They say God graces us for the experiences we are to endure, and I know I’ve gone through some crazy things, but Ashley has gone through even more. Yet, despite all that she’s endured, she was always there for me. Whenever I’m in need of prayer or support, she’s been there. She’d give the clothes off of her back to help me succeed in all of my endeavors and has always been a sound voice of advice for me. She is one of my biggest cheerleaders and has continually encouraged me throughout the years. We’ve grown in our faith together and held each others hands through the molding process. Her friendship is one that has helped advance me like no other friendship before.

I’d also like to shoutout my best friend Keisha Myles. Keisha and I began our friendship with supporting each other and that’s been the premise of friendship. Keisha is so talented and skilled. She blows my mind with her witty demeanor and problem solving. She wrote an amazing book called “All My Crazy” that I am so proud of her for completing as it wasn’t easy for her to physically get it done. She rocks!

Finally, I’d like to shoutout my husband Peter who has been a rock to me (just as the meaning of his name suggests). He’s been my biggest support system. He’d move a mountain for me and our children and has always done what he could to help me accomplish all of my dreams, even the crazy ones. I am so grateful that God sent him to find me that day that we met, even if we can’t agree on what that exact day was! Ha!
