We had the good fortune of connecting with Tatiana Vernéll and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tatiana, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I’ve always had ideas that weren’t the “ideal” job as a kid. You’re always told to be a nurse, lawyer, doctor etc. I feel as though entrepreneurship wasn’t instilled into us as it should’ve been. I have always loved things Beauty whether it was hair, nails, or makeup. I’ve always been a “girly girl”, but it wasn’t until high school that I considered cosmetology to be a thing that I truly wanted to do. I became that friend that always had to put friends lashes on or do their makeup before a party. From there I discovered YouTube, and makeup took a place in my heart. I always practiced new trends and figured out the latest products to buy. From there, with a little more research, I found out that I could actually do this as a career. To do something that I actually loved became my main focus.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m most proud seeing the different stages of growth when it comes to my artistry. No it wasn’t easy for me, with the makeup industry it’s very easy to judge and compare your work to other artists. You have to be dedicated and trust in yourself enough to know that your work is good enough, and that you are just as capable as any other artist. As of today, professionally I took the time out to actually invest in one on ones with makeup artist who were further along than me. Each artist is different but taught me different techniques that I molded into my own. And of course practice makes perfect, so continuing to practice my technique on my friends and clients made me the Artist that I am today. I want me and my brand to be a representation for both men and women to know that they are capable to do whatever they set their mind to. Nothing is impossible focus on actual goals that will help you grow, make investments that make sense, and pray through the process.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
This question is actually really easy because me and my best friends tend to do this all the time! One thing about us we are some true FOODIES, we love to try new places to go to but always tend to find ourselves at restaurants such as Taste Bar & Kitchen, Grace’s, and Lotus. As for drinks we love the vibes of A’dor, & Prospect Park, it’s always a great time. The food is great and we normally top it off with some hookah.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I feel as though so many people have played a role in my journey as an entrepreneur. To my parents, thank you for showing me unconditional love and support. You three over the years have made a way for me to be able to continue my journey when I felt like giving up. Through all my tears y’all have made sure I saw the bigger picture through every situation. I thank y’all and love y’all so much for your continuous love and support through it all.
To my best friends Britney, Mikala, and Shameka, thank you for always having a listening ear whenever I need it. You girls always encourage and help me in places you can’t even imagine.
To my cousin Joslyn, thank you for teaching me the ropes in my beginning stages. You believed in me enough to teach me everything you learned along the way.
I have so many supportive friends and family that I just honestly can’t list everyone, but I’m grateful & blessed for anyone who has helped me in any type of way. Most importantly I thank God without his guidance, grace, and mercy I am nothing.
