We had the good fortune of connecting with Tawanna Houston and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tawanna, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My thought process behind starting my own business stemmed from wanting to pursue a life that could be beneficial not only for myself, but for my family and the community around me. It began with me first learning that when you do something you love you never work a day in your life and I wanted a career that did just that. I also had my own goals I wanted to accomplish that required flexibility that other companies could not always promise me. Lastly, I believe that we sometimes work all our lives to help someone else be wealthy with all their dreams met and we tend to forget that we too deserve a whole pie to share for generations not just a slice or the crumbs left over and with that realization…a boss was born.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am the owner of Mrs. Houston’s Avon. I offer health and beauty products and more. The customer service I provide is the key to what sets me apart from others. I am most excited about continuing to build meaningful relationships that allow me to personalize each client’s shopping experience. I’ve loved what I do now since the first day I launched. My business has provided a joyful experience for me and even helped me in earning my associates degree in business management. I learned that the key to overcoming any challenges has been to simply not give up. On days where business may be slow and you are not as confident as an owner you must continue to push and encourage yourself like the little engine that could. Fake it till you make it if you must. I want to share with the world that my story is about a growing business woman looking for opportunities to better the world around her each day possible. My brand empowers people to be the best and happier version of themselves inside and out.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My top spots within or around Houston Texas to visit to dine with friends and family are Fat Crabs, Lost & Found, and Texas Roadhouse. As well as Whataburger and IHOP for those quick grab and gos. The best places for drinks would be Mi Ranchos Mexican food and Krab Queenz Seafood. As of recently the most interestingly fun places I have visited that others should surely check out have been the Humble Insperity Observatory and Kingwood Pinspiration splatter paint experience.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
No matter where life or my business takes me I would like everyone to know that I am nothing without God. When trials and tribulations show up nobody can fix it like Jesus. It may sound cliche to some, but he blesses me with the support I receive from others. It’s nothing of me or my talent alone nor is it because I’ve held such close relationships with others. I have had strangers show more support than those I thought would be by my side every step of my journey. I appreciate everyone and couldn’t be where I am today without each and every persons support received along the way.
