We had the good fortune of connecting with Taylor Ellis and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Taylor, why did you pursue a creative career?
As a young child, I was always asked what I wanted to be when I grew up. But, I never had a clear answer. People would list my character traits and suggest careers that would suit me, but I always knew that I wanted to make art. I was introduced to Adobe Illustrator and graphic design in my senior year of high school while trying to create a t-shirt design for our graduating class. That’s when I realized that graphic design could be a viable career choice for me.

After attending the University of Houston, graduating with a B.A. in advertising and a minor in studio art, and changing my major three times, I finally found my true calling – Delrose Art & Design Studio. It took me two years to figure out what I wanted to do, but I’m now proud to say that I own a creative studio that allows me to dabble in different mediums and inspire others in my community to do the same.

Not only do I want to continue fueling my passion for art, but I also aspire to teach art to children. It turns out that the people who suggested careers for me weren’t entirely wrong – I have a lot of patience and enjoy working with children. In addition to running my studio, I’m also working on becoming the Black Miss Frizzle of art!

Every day, I find inspiration in my surroundings and use that to create. My journey to Delrose Art & Design Studio wasn’t a straight path, but it allowed me to build on my creative experiences and find my true passion.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I have a diverse range of interests that include art, graphic design, and photography. I create visually appealing work that captures the viewer’s attention and draws them in. I believe that when it comes to art and starting a business, you just have to take the plunge and bring your ideas to life. Failing to take action can result in missed opportunities. I’ve experienced creative blocks and procrastination, but I’ve learned that it’s important to push through those challenges and keep creating. Otherwise, I’m doing a disservice to the little girl who dreamed of being an artist. I’ve found that it’s crucial to surround myself with people and environments that inspire me and allow me to grow. Networking with others has provided me with valuable insights, encouragement, and mentorship. I have ambitious plans for Delrose Art & Design Studio, including owning a physical location, curating an art collection, and providing a space for others to get creative. I’m excited for what the future holds as both an artist and a business owner.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to give a shout out to my parents.

My dad is the reason I have any artistic ability at all. He’s my number one fan and customer, always challenging me with new tasks and ideas. We’re both creative thinkers, and I love bouncing ideas back and forth with him. One of my fondest memories is watching him effortlessly sketch the San Jacinto Monument for a project I had. I couldn’t believe how talented he was – and that we shared that talent!

And then there’s my mom. She’s a force to be reckoned with – a real firecracker. If she tells you something, you better believe it. She’s the one who’s always encouraged me and inspired me to pursue my passions. When it comes to my artistic career, she’s been my biggest cheerleader. Whenever I create something new, she’s the first to chime in with ideas and inspiration. I don’t know where I’d be without her.
