Meet Tearani Nance | Business Owner & Medical Student

We had the good fortune of connecting with Tearani Nance and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tearani, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Before creating this business, I began making my own personal care products because I suffer from dry and sensitive skin. Many top brands either left my skin irritated, dryer than before, or were very costly. After much research and finding what works for me, I wanted to share my experience with others. As I learn more about various skin types through research and listening to people’s needs, I plan on expanding this brand more and continue creating natural products for all people. It is important for everyone to feel beautiful and comfortable in the skin they’re in.
What should our readers know about your business?
Cocoa Smooth is my heart! My goal is to continue satisfying each customer with all natural and hand crafted products that meet their skin’s needs by using a host of oils, butters, essential oils, and other natural ingredients. Something I am immensely proud of is that my formulations have aided individuals with psoriasis and eczema. Of course helping anyone is a huge success, but being a future health care professional I am extremely grateful to be of assistance to those with a medical condition. This has not been an easy journey by any means. However, what has helped the most was listening to the needs and reviews of my customers. I thank them for helping me improve this business. Something I’ve learned is that being consistent with this business is essential. Additionally, that can be applied to anything in life. I would like the world to know that I aspire to help individuals take care of their bodies and feel better about themselves holistically. In order to do so, I believe it is essential to start with the outer surface, the skin. So, let’s start with the shell and work our way to the core.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love my city and I will tell anyone that. If I were planning a trip for my bestie, I love nature and doing outdoor activities, so I would have to take my friend to Xtreme Off Road Park. It is an ATV Recreation Park just outside of Houston in Crosby, TX. I always have a good time and meet new people there. My all time favorite restaurants are Mikki’s Soulfood Cafe, Taste Bar + Kitchen, and Pappadeaux Seafood Kitchen. Lastly, for hanging out, I love going to Boheme. It’s very laid back and they have the best Mojitos I’ve ever had!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I will always like to acknowledge my parents in any of my accomplishments. They have always motivated and encouraged me to follow my dreams, and creating this business was nothing different. Additionally, I would like to shout out 3 physicians, Dr. Max Madhere, Dr. Pierre Johnson, and Dr. Joe Semien. They are fellow alum from my alma mater, Xavier University of Louisiana and authors of Pulse of Perseverance. Their book changed my life! They each gave their stories and journeys on how they became medical doctors, but their purpose was to inspire young black youth to work towards their goals and never give up. Through their book, I’ve learned that no matter what obstacles arise your faith, determination and perseverance will always see you through.
