Meet Temitope Okeseeyin | HR Technologist and Gig Economist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Temitope Okeseeyin and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Temitope, what’s something about your industry that outsiders are probably unaware of?
Most people still think HR is about forms, policies, and payroll. But what they don’t see is how much the industry has evolved, especially with technology at the center.
I often say HR has moved from the backroom to the boardroom. These days, we’re using AI to shortlist candidates in seconds, chatbots to answer employee questions at midnight, and data to predict who might resign before they even say a word.
As someone who has helped HR teams across Africa embrace technology, and now consulting here in the U.S., I’ve seen firsthand how many companies are still playing catch-up.
The tools are here, but the mindset shift is lagging. It isn’t just about efficiency, it’s about strategy, experience, and staying competitive in a global market. And that’s a reality many outsiders haven’t caught up with yet.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My work sits at the intersection of HR, technology, and global talent development. I help individuals and organizations prepare for the future of work by leveraging technology, strategic positioning, and borderless opportunities. Through my platform, the University of Freelancing, we’ve trained thousands of professionals particularly women, to tap into the global gig economy and future-proof their careers.
One of the most unique parts of our work is our 30-Day Schools, fast-paced, results-driven programs designed to help people skill up and launch or level up within just a month. We currently run four tracks:
1. 30-Day School of Virtual Assistance (VA) – for those who want to become skilled virtual assistants and work with international clients.
2. 30-Day School of AI – introduces professionals to practical, no-code AI tools for productivity, creativity, and career growth.
3. 30-Day School of HR-Tech – helps HR professionals evolve by integrating technology, automation, and AI into their practice.
4. 30-Day School of Freelancing – teaches individuals how to build sustainable freelance careers on global platforms like Upwork.
Each school blends structure with support: you get weekly coaching, hands-on tasks, peer community, and real-world tools to help you apply what you learn immediately. It’s not about passive learning, it’s about clarity, action, and momentum.
What sets me apart is my ability to simplify complex shifts. I don’t just talk about AI, freelancing, or HR systems I make them accessible and actionable. I help people and companies actually move with the times, not just talk about change.
Getting here wasn’t easy. I’ve had to lead in spaces where there was no blueprint, no one to copy, no room for excuses. I built a brand, raised a son, relocated across continents, and kept showing up. There were moments where funding was tight, visibility was low, or imposter syndrome knocked hard. But I kept learning, evolving, and remembering who I’m doing this for.
One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is this, your voice is your value. You don’t have to wait for permission to show up. You can be female, faith-filled, visionary, and global, all at once.
What I want the world to know about me and my brand is this: we help people rise. Whether through strategy, systems, or storytelling, we equip individuals to align with the future of work and unlock global opportunities no matter where they’re starting from.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
To be honest, I’m more of a cozy moments, good conversation, and meaningful connection kind of person, so if my best friend came to visit Houston, we’d keep it real and refreshing.
Day 1: Home Vibes & Heart Talks
We’d settle in, cook something delicious at home (maybe jollof rice or a fusion recipe I’ve been meaning to try), catch up, laugh, and ease into the week. I believe hospitality is more about presence than performance.
Day 2: Movie & Munch
We’d do a chill movie day, either at IPIC for that luxury recliner experience or right at home with popcorn and mood lighting. I’m big on meaningful films, so we’d likely end up pausing the movie halfway to unpack life lessons.
Day 3: Faith & Food
We’d attend a Sunday service at my worship center The Transforming Church Richmond, then head to Wazobia or The Breakfast Klub for brunch. Soul food and soul care, all in one day.
Day 4: Creative Coworking & Chill
If it’s a weekday, I’d introduce them to my world, maybe stop by a co-working space like The Cannon just to show them the rhythm of the remote work life. We’d grab coffee, brainstorm ideas (because I attract visionaries), and talk about what’s next.
Day 5: Nature & Naps
We’d take a walk in Buffalo Bayou Park or visit Hermann Park for fresh air, but I’d definitely factor in a nap. Rest is part of the experience, especially if you’re a woman who does a lot.
Day 6: Shop a Little, Rest a Lot
Maybe a mini Target run, a stop at Walmart, or a quick trip to The Galleria, not necessarily to shop big but to walk, talk, and people-watch. We’d grab some takeout and head home to just vibe.
Day 7: Reflections & Reset
On the final day, we’d do some journaling or vision boarding, speak affirmations, and pray together. Nothing over the top, just a beautiful, intentional end to the visit.
What I love about Houston is how you can make it what you need it to be. Loud and lively, or soft and sacred, it holds space for both. And for someone like me, who thrives on purpose, people, and peace, that’s everything.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There’s no way I could be where I am today without the incredible people and voices that have shaped me.
First, my deepest shoutout goes to my husband, his quiet strength and consistent belief in me have been my anchor through transitions, big moves, and bold decisions. I also honor my mentor, Dr. Olakunle Soriyan, whose wisdom has expanded my vision and helped me navigate purpose with clarity.
I’m deeply grateful for the communities I’ve led and learned from, especially the women and talents who trusted me to guide them into global opportunities. Their courage fuels my passion.
And finally, a special shoutout to every book, prayer, voice note, and late-night strategy session that reminded me that purpose is never a solo journey.
