Meet Tempist Haywood | Small Business Owner

We had the good fortune of connecting with Tempist Haywood and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tempist, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
StormiCreations: I’ve always been a super crafty person who would rather make it than buy it. Once I found out that I could actually make a business out of making quality custom merchandise, the dream just kind of manifested. I spent a full summer studying the machines I wanted and taking notes on how to make all kinds of custom merch, and thanks to my big sister who always supports/spoils me, she bought my first Cricut machine Christmas 2018! We launched in January of 2019 and the growth has been amazing!

Storm Moon Studio: I’m the wild child of my two sisters, and have always loved things like Astrology, and the occult. As a child you could always catch me with a mood ring of some sort, the hippie vibes have always lived within me. I’m big on yoga, meditation, and can name almost any crystal you place in front of me. In undergrad I took Geology and lab was by far the best part of the entire course! It came natural and I felt at home and in my element. During the pandemic while in lockdown my sister and I were at home working on our businesses ( custom masks were in high demand at the time) it dawned on me that I wanted my own Metaphysical Shop/ Yoga Studio. I thought about it for a few weeks, made a plan, some business cards, and even enrolled in a yoga certification course! We launched a year later in 2021!

My two shops started out as passion projects and have turned into a career that love and am really good at! Sometimes I still cant believe the growth and expansion .

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Stormi Creations: What started out as making t-shirts, masks etc. for family and friends has turned into something so much bigger! My best seller to date are my custom graduation stoles. I got my Masters in 2021 and decided to make a custom stole for myself. I made a listing on my Etsy page that night and not even two days later I had over 60 orders from student’s all over the country! 4 semesters later, I’ve done close to 500 custom graduation stoles and have been a best seller on Etsy for the last 3 semesters! I recently had the opportunity to make 200 custom Black History shirts for Amazon! That by far was the most rewarding order I’ve ever gotten.

Storm Moon Studio: My metaphysical shop draws inspiration from the countless shops I’ve visited over the years. Not only do I sell raw and tumbled crystals of various sizes, I also mix my own hand crafted herbal teas, yoni steams, intention candles, and smudge mixes. I’m big on literature so you can always find a growing collection of spiritual books at the shop! I offer yoga classes and use my social media platforms to spread awareness about the benefits of yoga and meditation. 95% of my jewelry is handmade with the purest intention and I make sure to cleanse every item that comes into and leaves my shop! Nothing is done without intention over here!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My sisters deserve so much credit in my professional and personal growth! Business owners themselves, they strive and push me to produce quality work and persevere through the toughest times. We do markets and pop-up shops together and have started a joint company called Haywood Sisters Co. where we offer custom party favors and décor for events. We have big goals for out separate and joint businesses. They’re Amazing!

My Boyfriend/unofficial assistant is so supportive and encouraging. He keeps me sane when I’m stressing over fulfilling orders on time, and steps in to help me whenever and wherever I need it. He’s the best!

My Mom and family have always backed me 100% there wasn’t a game or event that they didn’t support me in. I’m very blessed to have a team of support and encouragement.
