We had the good fortune of connecting with Tiffany Jones and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tiffany, other than deciding to work for yourself, what else do you think played a pivotal role in your story?
The best decision I ever made was realizing that I could not reach my fullest potential alone. Although I take immense pride in being a solopreneur and starting my business by myself, I have been able to grow in ways I couldn’t even imagine once I started to expand my team. The team behind me, whether it is assistant coordinators, interns, or day-of assistants, allow me to focus on the parts of the business that I am skilled at and create better processes for growth. Accomplishing things as a team is super rewarding, and I cannot wait to continue to expand and grow our team and our business.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I am a lover of curating dope experiences and planning meaningful events, so The Tiffany Effect was started after years of being the go-to event planner for my friends and family. While my love for event design is strong, my love for project management is even stronger. I have a background in Supply Chain Management (shoutout to Rutgers Business School, where I completed my undergrad studies!), so my approach to event planning has always been through the lens of a project manager. Because of that, I’m not your traditional event planner! I find the most successful events are well-organized with impeccable event flows and are thoughtfully planned with a team of vendors who share the same vision.
Starting my business was not easy, but I had all of the necessary tools, resources, and knowledge from college that equipped me to not only be a successful entrepreneur, but also thrive in this specific industry. I started The Tiffany Effect formally in 2018, and the entire first year was focused on trial & error, learning the ropes, and creating business processes that made sense FOR ME. I read countless books, listened to numerous podcasts, and received advice from successful people in the industry. But at the end of the day, I knew I had to start the foundations of my business the way I wanted to. It was a very liberating but also scary step to take, but I loved learning along the way. In fact, my first official year in business, I opened to the public with a “soft launch” and provided FREE event services to anyone who reached out. I took that first year to build my professional portfolio, gather feedback from clients, and ultimately use every mistake I made as a way to course correct before I officially opened the following year. I knew putting in the hard work early on would come with some financial, mental, and sometimes even emotional sacrifices, but they have been paying off ever since!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Any time I have a friend visiting HTX, I also create a visually appealing, thoughtful, and well-rounded itinerary so this is such a good question!
For places to eat, I definitely would recommend Lost & Found for brunch or a laid-back dinner, Bungalow for a more luxe dinner experience, Flora for a great lunch time vibe with beautiful aesthetics and views, and Bloom & Bee for their Lava Roll! I would also suggest going to The Post for a great adult food court, Chapman & Kirby for brunch, Stick Talk for cajun hibachi, Taste Bar + Kitchen for breakfast, and Truth for some great BBQ. There are so many great places to eat in Houston, you really cannot go wrong. I have endless recommendations!
I like to explore hang out at local bars so I like going to sit at Joey Uptown, Bisou, Uptown, or even Wonderbar.
PopStroke and museum visiting would also be on my list.
And you can’t leave Houston without visiting one of the many instagrammable spots that feature some cool artwork and murals around the city.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My shoutout goes to my parents. Although they probably would never admit it, they are the backbone behind my success and the drive and inspiration that propelled me into this industry. My father is one of the most hard-working guys I have ever met. His dedication instilled in my discipline to start a business, keep going, and put in the work to hit the goals I set for myself. My mother’s creativity, personality, and love for design allowed me to thrive with events – I’ve even collaborated with her a few times to build event designs and get inspiration for my client’s décor. I wouldn’t be where I am today without their unwavering support and I am forever grateful.
