We had the good fortune of connecting with Tina “Kaptivator” Wilson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tina “Kaptivator”, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The most important factor behind the sucess of Gamma Alpha Psi is the Loyalty, Honor, and Pride code that each member lives by. It is a true brotherhood where no matter the location or what we have going on in our lives, we are able to call on any member of the organization for support. This bond allows everyonr to feel comfortable and vulnerable as we move forward each day to go great things.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Gamma Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc started as a vision and then formed into reality in 2006 as the founders crossed the first line the Final 4. This began a journey of a non profit LGBTQ Greek Letter Organization becoming incorporated and now celebrating 17 years of service. The road throughout these 17 years have seen and faced many challenges. Being an organization of dominate presenting women society already placed many challenges on us by simply occupying spaces. Gamma strives to bridge the gap between the diversities of all communities each day. We face these challenges with solutions which deflates some of the intial confusion or frustrations that each person may have. With multiple lines crossed throughout the years, Gamma has built a reputation of being able to step into a room and povide laughs, smiles, and postive energy shifts. These things are achieved in rooms such as community service events, fund raising events, or events that are thrown by the organization it self. The term “you don’t want to miss out on this one,” is one that the members of Gamma take pride in from whatever room the organization is mentioned in.
All things are not always challenges, most things have taught vaulable lessons to the organization as a whole, as well as to the members that make up the organization. The biggest lesson that we appreciate in Gamma is that the diversity of the members backgrounds, upbringings, and current life makes us all stronger as individuals and as an organization. We look for that diversity when recruiting or when individuals are interested in the organization. Life lessons can come from all directions and people, but that will not be given the opportunity to happen if a varity of people are not in place. If there is anything that we want to ensure people remember when Gamma Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc is mentioned is that it’s members are always a positive light in any space that they occupy. Being a dominate presenting female fraternity, those stigmas that society has are not common in the actions, reactions, or attitudes that Gamma brings when they show up. We wlcome all dominate presenting persons to an organization filled with Loyalty, Honor, and Pride. An organization that assists with the community, and assits with often guiding individuals that need a little more drive and purpose. Those person who fill out of place or maybe looking for a “tribe” we are here. Rewards and Lesson do not come easy, but when you have support through it all, sometimes it makes those things a little more bearable.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
While Gamma Alpha Psi does have members in many locations, most of the events that we attend or have been at halls where we are allowed to create those experiences. When in Houston, we enjoy ourselves and ensure we hit a couple brunch spots. Pitch 25 allows for a laid-back atmosphere with fellowship and interaction. Chapman & Kirby is also a spot that we enjoy hitting when in the city. The vibe, food, and mood always allow an exciting time.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The dedication and appreciation go out to the founders of Gamma Alpha Psi. Thier vision, effort, and enthusiasm pushed Gamma to where it is today. What started out as a vision from Cicely “Kavalier” Moore, Kendra “Kassanova” Randall. Marquita “2 Klean” Williams. & Veronica “Kasaba” Pikes is now a reality that spans across multiple states.
