We had the good fortune of connecting with Todd Wilson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Todd, let’s start by talking about what inspires you?
Nature and the outdoors inspires me. The opportunity to share it with people who don’t have the luxury to be in it as much as I, is fulfilling. I have a passion for fishing in the Laguna Madre, targeting Speckled Trout, Redfish and Flounder. Watching the look on a persons face during a South Texas Sunrise on a boat ride through the gorgeous Mother Laguna Madre is satisfying. Let alone the birds, Porpoise, Nilgai, White Tail Buck or longhorn you may get to catch a glimpse of throughout the day. To have the luxury of teaching the art of wade fishing with lures to the public, and see their faces, when they land a big yellow mouthed speckled trout just seals the deal. My love of Nature and the outdoors Inspires me.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Over the past ten years, my Fishing Tournament production team and I, have produced benefit tournaments raising in excess of 300,000.00 for the Children’s Cancer Division at Driscoll Children’s Hospital. This motivated us to expand our reach and produce tournaments for all anglers. We currently have Pro Trout & Redfish tournaments as well as Ladies, Children and Family Tournaments. There are 8 tournaments on the schedule for 2021 with a potential of more to come. The tournaments are produced all over the coastal bend. In 2021 we are adding a benefit tournament for the Texas Game Warden Association. With Covid-19 the year 2020 tournament season was especially challenging. We made it through and are looking forward to the next season. There are a lot of wonderful companies that support us with sponsorship. I will list a few, KFTX 97.5 Radio, Miller Lite, Sames Ford, Majek Boats Reel Sportswear, Competition Sound, Blue Streak Fabrication, Waypoint Marine, AW Detail, American Glass Distributors, Premier Yamaha, Homerecker Lures, Fatcat Boats, Kings Stank Stick, Made in Texas Radio, S&S Painting & Remodeling and Texas Excellence. We are always looking for companies to partner with. One of our goals is to get people out enjoying the outdoors and teaching conservation So that many generations can enjoy the spoils of our bay systems.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I entertain a lot in the Coastal Bend. A trip to Marker 37 Marina and launch the boat for an adventure on the water and a day of fishing that cannot be beat. Taking in the view and enjoying the spoils of your days catch is always a great time. At lunch, Snoopy’s Restaurant never disappoints. Pull the boat right up to the pier and have a great lunch and some ice cream for desert at Scoopy’s next door. Then back to Marker 37 Marina to have your fish cleaned and enjoy cold beverages. After cleaning up from the day, and enjoying an afternoon walk on the beach. The Black Diamond Restaurant is the best place to have your catch prepared while you enjoy live music and fun.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
As a child my father always took me in the outdoors fishing, combined with the kind and giving heart of my mother. I decided 10 years ago to start a benefit tournament for Driscoll Children’s Hospital. My uncle passed as a result of cancer, as well as several other family members over the years. This made me choose the children’s cancer division at Driscoll to donate to. Over the past 10 years my Tournament Team has donated over 300k to the children’s cancer division at Driscoll with the Saltwater Roundup Tournament. This drove us to the decision of opening up the Laguna Madre Tournament Company to provide tournaments that people from all walks of life could participate in.
