We had the good fortune of connecting with TOLU DADA and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi TOLU, any advice for those thinking about whether to keep going or to give up?
Here’s the thing, giving up is only an option when your purpose is not aligning with your passion. I say that because in any endeavor I undertake, I always ask myself is the act or process pushing me towards my purpose. I believe when you live on purpose the option to give up becomes only a temporary daydream because you know that your purpose must be fulfilled.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
As cliche as it may sound music is my art but it is also my life. My older siblings are also musicians as well, so since i was 3yrs old i’ve been banging on pianos, blowing through trumpets, and finding anything that would make that beautiful vibration we call music. I’ve learned 5 instruments, the bass guitar and piano are the 2 I choose to work professionally in. I often use both in my productions and original music to create a unique combination of multi-voice melodies with both instruments. It has definitely been a challenge within my music career because unlike most professions music is subjective, different people can have different opinions on your art depending on their backgrounds. This can make obtaining certain goals difficult because someone in position may not get you or your art, but of course there are many who will. The TOLU brand represents healing through music and entertainment. I work to make sure the vibrations that come from the music I produce and play is on purpose to heal and to bring about praise and rejoicing.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would take them to my home Church Sonrise Community Church, Pas. Edward Buford. 5609 East Mt. Houston, this would make sure we start the week on positive note. Then for Sunday dinner I would have to let them try the original Frenchy’s chicken lol . I don’t eat meat often but that day would have to be an exception. Throughout the week I would have to see if any NASA tours were available , and other places such as the Aquarium, the art district and we would eventually end up at Live Out Loud Studios which is my band’s ( Live Out Loud Band ) and family’s professional recording studio.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d have to say my immediate family is my source of inspiration. I am a first generation Nigerian in America, so I have never met any family member outside of my 5 immediate family members, (outside of social media). This has created a hub of inspiration, empowerment, and accountability amongst us. With me being the youngest child this also gave me a great level of mentorship and guidance to excel and push me to be the best possible me.
