We had the good fortune of connecting with Tori Butcher and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tori, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Well, I started researching holistic health and nutrition information after having experienced being an intermittent caregiver for my husband. Through the medical care he received, he had a lot of help, but eventually hit a wall and was never fully healed from his chronic issues. I knew there was more that could help support him. We were blessed to be led to some functional nutrition practitioners near us that were able to identify triggers conventional medicine could not. During the last 5.5 years, I have also experienced my own issues with infertility and miscarriage. Through the direction of my holistic OB, functional nutritionists and my own research, I saw how important lifestyle and diet changes were for my body.
My pursuit of health coaching started from years of my own personal research and wanting to learn more to apply the information to my other field of work, physical therapy. I am a licensed physical therapist assistant as well, so I found a program that could teach me about lifestyle and nutrition to better serve my patients.
Along the path of my course work, I discovered I had a passion for teaching others about lifestyle and health from a christian perspective outside of the physical therapy world. I felt the Lord was leading me to start Holy.istic Wellness Coaching to help other Christian women who needed support and guidance in this world of health. So I currently am doing both part time.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
What sets me apart from others is that I am doing this from a christian and holistic perspective. It’s rare for anyone to get an hour to explore their wellness goals with a trained professional. As an Integrative Nutrition Health Coach, I coach women in all ages of life through individualized, faith based nutrition and wellness. I walk with them in a supportive environment to help assess what areas of their life need support, and help them articulate and achieve their goals in all areas through a holistic lens.
I do not give restrictions and I support everyone with a personalized approach. We are what we call “bio-individuals”*. This means that everyone has different needs and therefore needs to be supported in different ways.
We also look at everything from a whole body, mind and spirit perspective. How does a persons stress impact their eating? How does someone’s relationship impact their health? How does their relationship with God impact them? How does someone’s foods choices impact their health? We pray briefly at the beginning of the session, and then go through things like stress relief, relationships, work/life balance, food, recipes and more.
We also talk through ways to deconstruct cravings and navigate good advice from fad diets.
I put the tools into my clients hands and help them learn their body, so they do not rely just on me, but the signals their body is using to talk to them.
Another unique service I offer is bi-monthly events. One month we may go on a hike. Another, we will visit the local farmers market. Another we may visit a local farm-to-table restaurant. I use these events to create learning opportunities as well as a way to have fun!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well I live in The Woodlands, but I previously lived in Cypress. I would say in The Woodlands, I would want to walk the waterway, especially at sunset. It’s beautiful to walk along the water as the sun lights up the sky with pretty colors.
There is also a local farm to table restaurant in cypress/spring area called Seasons Harvest Cafe. They have a farm on their property and cook seasonally with items from their garden. It is great.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I absolutely would not be where I am today without Jesus and my Husband. Jesus, because my faith impacts everything. He was held me through the hardest, toughest times in my life. It has given me joy and hope in times of darkness. And He has seen me through every season.
My Husband, because he is so supportive. He encourages and supports me. Any new thing I want to try for our health, he helps me research and is up for anything. He has been here through it all and is one of my reasons for the passion I have in health.
