We had the good fortune of connecting with Toya Kent and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Toya, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
Transparency and honesty has capitulated my business to where it is today. Honesty saves everyone time. My clients know when they indulge in my products that they are being presented with a item that has undergone a rigorous quality assurance process and analyzed by me personally. I do not simply provide items but an experience and I strive to make every client walk away feeling secured and happy with their investment. I often share my highs and lows of being in the business world because I know it can be a blueprint for some one else seeking to step into this realm.
I also contribute my grit to why Lush XXI has elevated to such a level. I posses the courage and determination to push through no matter the obstacle that stand before me. A key part of the equation is that I know how to recover after a loss and I pivot strategically yet gracefully. My dedication doesn’t have a off season. I am discipline in doing what needs to be done yet I am human and often times I don’t even want to do. Quality is my main business plan and I always deliver more than what is expected.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I bend but I do not break. I pivot , I do not back down. The very moment you choose to do what you really what to do- what you are called it to do, its a totally different life. I transitioned from a career that no longer served my vision for my life until a industry that changed my outlook on life. I have a passion for hair and amplifying the already present beauty in others. Growth is painful and change is uncomfortable but there is no great ache then forcing yourself to stay within something you have outgrown. That ideal can be applied to an array of topics in life- for me it was my career. Naturally, I had people and things to try to distract my view and focus but I never allowed the things to challenge my way of thinking. It is no secret that I am a believer and my relationship with God is an intimate one. My faith has pushed me past what I thought were my limitations but everyday he reassures me that I am operating in my purpose. I don’t allow the business world’s expectations derail me but I am definitely grateful for the lessons thus far.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My highly skilled team, of stylist at Studio Mink, my Lush XXI Team that keeps the train moving daily and my three amazing daughters that provide me the motivation to keep pressing. I am truly grateful for solid support system .
