We had the good fortune of connecting with Tran Dang and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tran, every day, we about how much execution matters, but we think ideas matter as well. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
I’ve always had a love for photography and for a very long time it was a hobby for me. Then one day, I thought, why not, nothing to lose! So I decided to turn it into a business.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I have a journalistic approach to photography. Capturing the candid moments and emotions felt as they unravel. Catching the warmth, light & shade in those candid instances as they take place in that second. Pictures can tell a thousand words and bring back the feelings of excitement, joy & happiness felt in that space and time. That’s why I love what I do. It’s not just an image, it’s an emotion. It hasn’t been a smooth road to creating, developing and growing a new business in a new city. It’s been more like a constant roller coaster ride. On which some days can be really discouraging. But I believe that if you have a true love for something, along with hard work and determination, success will follow. The hardest battle has been building a client base and the connections within the relevant industries, especially with being new to Houston. Rejections can be difficult, but sometimes when I feel like I’m being rejected I’m probably being re-directed to something better. What can I say, I’m optimistic!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
There is so much good food in Houston, so these are a must if visiting: – Coltivare Pizza & Garden : always busy, because that’s how good their food is. They always have a line before the business even opens, so get there early! – Uchi : a non-traditional modern take on Japanese food. They have a sake social hour, where all their dishes are offered in smaller servings so you can try everything. And try everything you must!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Tuesday’s Together Facebook group that met up in person once a month. I met other like-minded entrepreneurs and learned a lot from other business professionals.
