We had the good fortune of connecting with Tremelody Robinson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tremelody, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My thought process behind starting my own business was to share my God- given talent with the world. I knew that this is what God ordained me to do. As I begin to ponder back upon my years in both middle and high school I begin to think about when I use to sell homemade cupcakes to my classmates, other students at school, and teachers and faculty. Not only did I sell them at school I sold them to a small customer-base that I established within my community. The cupcakes were selling really fast and it was unbelievable with the positive feedback I was receiving about the taste, how moist they were, how the icing melted in their mouth and left them with an eager anticipation for another bite. I was very ecstatic with the reviews and I enjoyed making cupcakes and seeing others happy. I started baking and selling them to help my mother out with bills because she was a single parent with two kids and worked two sometimes three jobs and though I wasn’t very old I knew that it was something that I could do to help out with the bills. So I prayed and asked God to help me come up with a business and that is what it led to. My mother, grandparents, aunts, uncles and God Squad Mentor always taught me to trust in God, keep the faith and never give up. Before I knew it I was making two hundred dollars every two weeks just off cupcakes alone and I was also bringing in money from my part-time job at Winn-Dixie as a cashier. Fast forward a couple years later I wanted to do something special for my father and two of my cousins birthdays and I decided to try my hand at two theme cakes for them. The cakes were not the best but they were a start and I received lots of feedback from countless people to keep going and to not give up. With God, patience, prayer, my supportive family, friends, practice and keeping the faith I have became a professional self-taught baker that specializes in realistic cakes. I now offer custom cakes, realistic cakes, cupcakes, chocolate items (Strawberries, pretzels, apples, oreos, breakable hearts and more), pies, cheesecake, breads, cookies and so much more. e Do Custom Items For Celebrations Such As Chip Bags, Stickers, Juice/ Water Labels, Candy Bar Labels, Coloring Book’s Cake Toppers & More . All It Takes It The Faith Of A Mustard Seed Right? My Faith Have Grown Stronger Over The Years. I Would’ve Never Thought That I’d Be Making/Decorating Cakes Better Yet For Others But God Had Other Plans. I Trust Him, Worship & Adore Him As Well As His Plan For My Life. He’s First Of My Life, My Businesses & Everything That I Touch & That’s Why Everything I Touch Prosper. Baking Is My Therapy , Literally! I Could Be Having The Worst Day Ever But When I Bake/ Decorate Cakes I Forgot What I Was Even Mad About. I Can’t Wait To Have My Own Cake Show & Brand. Also I Will Be Competing In Cake Competitions Locally & Soon Some On Television.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Baking is my love language, literally. I could be having the worst day possible but once I get in my kitchen and start baking, praying, listening to music and talking to God it’s like I instantly forget what made me have a challenging day. What sets me apart from others would be my drive, my uniqueness, my humbleness and my faith. I am most proud of participating in my first cake competition that will be aired on national television next year. I will give more details as they come available and I will also provide everyone with sneak peek clips and behind the scenes videos and a v-log. It was not easy to get to where I am today because many people laughed at me, picked on me, and down-talked me saying that I would never make it and that my business is not going anywhere. But it’s crazy how my God works because it’s not funny anymore. My haters are my motivators and I thank them because they really pushed me and helped me to find potential that I didn’t even know that I had. I will soon compete in many more competitions both near and far, transition from a home bakery to a brick and mortar, have my own bakery product line in all stores nationwide, have my own bakery show on television, be on billboards all over the country and have multiple bakery locations/partnerships world-wide. The lessons that I have learned along the way would be all you need is the faith of a mustard seed and you can accomplish anything, write the vision and make it clear and no matter what never give up. I want the world to know that Tremelody Robinson and Tremelody’s Sweet Dreams Bakery will be going world-wide and will be one of the top leading bakery companies in the nation.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend was visiting the area I would bring her to my mother’s restaurant NeNe’s Cafe for a good soul food meal that leaves your soul singing. I would suggest that they try some of her savory oxtails and gravy over rice, mouth-watering macaroni -cheese, golden brown cornbread or homemade yeast rolls and sweet candy yams. Or I would recommend that she tries the “Big-Money Burger Box” named after my grandfather Leroy “Big Money” Gillyard that includes a double bacon cheeseburger, loaded fries and wings. I would also suggest that she also tries my belated grandmother’s sweet potato pie, it’s to die for. I will then book her a photo shoot with my brother Tremeine Robinson owner of Robinson Productions and he takes the best photos and she can also shop at his clothing store Robinson Square Fashion for a nice outfit. Then we can go later on we can go by my father Rodney Gilley barbeque pit named “Grilley’s BBQ Smokehouse” and enjoy some good smoke BBQ and fresh sides that are to die for. Then we can go to my Uncle Zeke (Ezekiel Gillayrd) house and enjoy a good card game of spades, good vibes, laughter and good memories. I mean who doesn’t love a good card game and be surrounded by good people. Then, I would take her to my Uncle Prophet Donald Gillyard church called “Modern Day Warrior Ministries” where we can both receive a good word from God, get prayed over and restore our souls. He is an amazing man of God and him and my mother Prophetess Miranda does an amazing job in the Kingdom of God and speaks prophetically and it always comes to pass. Before she leaves I would call my Uncle George Gillyard owner of G&G Mobile Detailing to come and detail her car before she hits the road as we enjoy some of my delicious cupcakes. My uncle George does an amazing job detailing cars and have you contemplating on rather you just brought your car or not.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are quite a lot of individuals that I would like to send a heartfelt thank you to because without them I would not have accomplished everything that I have done thus far. First and foremost I would like to thank God because without him there is no me. He is my best-friend, my protector, my provider and my all in all. I would like to thank him for giving me this talent and showering his favor, blessings and love upon my life and my business. Next, I would like to send a very special shout out to my angels in heaven my grandmother Frances Gillyard, my grandfather Leroy Gillyard Sr, and my aunt Myrtis Louise Gillyard-Brenton. They have all played a major part in my life and have helped shape and molded me into the prestigious, God-fearing, and yet confident woman that I am today. I miss them dearly, I will forever cherish my memories with them and will continue to utilize every gem and all the wisdom that they have bestowed upon me. My grandmother and aunt were like second mothers to me and my grandfather was the only dad I ever knew before my step father came into my life. I am very thankful for my village and I love them all dearly. Everything that I do is for them and I will not disappoint them. Now, I would like to send a very special recognition and credit to my mother Miranda Michelle Gillyard-Gilley. My mother is my biggest aspiration in my life and I am inspired to be half the woman she is one day. She is my best-friend, my prayer partner/prayer warrior, my protector, my human diary and the best mother any girl could be blessed with and I thank God for her daily. I would like to thank her for keeping me encouraged, having my back, keeping it real with me and being my biggest supporter. I would like to send another special thanks to my father Rodney Gilley and my brother Tremeine Robinson for being my biggest supporters as well, keeping me encouraged and always having my bad. Thank you Rodney for stepping up and being a great father to me and my little brother I really appreciate you. I would like to send a special thanks to Barbara Whaley founder of God Squad Power Club for teaching me about God at a early age, mentoring me and helping me to achieve my goals. Lastly, I would like to give a very special shout out to all of my family, friends, customers, and potential customers for all the love prayers, sharing/liking my post, recommending me to others and the support I really appreciate you all and I love y’all dearly. I would like to send a heartfelt shoutout to my Uncle Prophet Donald Gillyard. Thank you for your powerful prayers, guidance, support and giving me God’s Prophetic words I really appreciate you.
